And you realize all numbers reported are probably minimum figuers? We'll never know exactly how many people are dying from this that didnt get tested or how many bodies China and others will hide to save face.
My wife's family in the Rio Grande Valley have been sick one after another for a 10 days. My sister in law is the latest in the house. Dry bronchitis cough and last night fever of 100.3. Does she have it? Unknown because she hasn't been tested and emergency rooms are packed right now. There will be an unknown greater number than what's reported who will ride out the sickness at home. We will only add those to the reported if they are hospitalized or die...maybe...

RE: The CORONAVIRUS thread
The symptoms went through out house about 3 weeks ago. Wife had the low grade fever, cough, went to the Dr, negative flu. I think this has been in the US longer then what is believed and there could have been many that have already had it and recovered. Everyone continues to look at the numbers, but they are misleading due to lack of testing until about 2 weeks ago. If they find that 50% of test are coming back positive, tells me half the population has it, do we then get released to continue life???

At some point we have to return to work and life.

I’m 45, have 3 kids, oldest is a senior in high school. Those kids have a lot going on this time of year, if this goes longer then the original April 6th return date, many things will start getting canceled. Fortunately, they’d school had their prom 2 weeks ago.

RE: The CORONAVIRUS thread
They are supposedly coming out with a "quick" test that will give a result in 45 minutes. If it is relatively inexpensive, when this settles down, maybe we can give it everyone (or a sizeable random sample) to get a real handle on how many people actually were infected. My wife, and a couple of other friends had longer than typical "colds" with coughs in the past month. Is it possible they had it? Who really knows.

Same here, I had a dry bronchial cough, occasional chills, and felt like general crap at different times for like a two week period. Never ran a fever. Went to the doctor, negative flu, negative strep. Was just told it was a virus of some sort and pretty much lectured for coming in for something so minor.

I'll never know if I had it because they wouldn't test in absence of a fever (Never mind that 20 plus percent don't run fevers) About a week into it, 3 or 4 people I work with ended up with the same symptoms plus small fevers. Today, one of their spouses ran a fever of 102 and was actually recommended to get tested, but they didn't have enough tests and he wasn't deemed critical enough.

If you had this crap in November, it probably wasn't this, but anywhere from Mid February on, there's a decent possibility that could have been it. No one will know unless they actually get sick later on with the disease.

I pointed this out in an earlier thread. Same with my family. Dry cough, low grade fever for a short time but couldn't seem to kick it like most. Wife went to the doc and tested negative for the flu. Put her on antibiotics that did nothing. Went away VERY slowly only to return for a few days with her. More than 3 weeks dealing with it. It's been over a month and we're still dragging from it. Her mom and dad brother and his wife had it too. We simply had dinner together. I had it first and within 24 hours the wife started showing symptoms. Popped zicam immediately following first symptoms with ZERO impact. A CCU charge nurse friend had the same about the same time and is convinced it was COVID. 01-ncaabbs

RE: The CORONAVIRUS thread
Just looked and the US is now 3rd behind China and Italy in the number of coronavirus cases. That didn't take long- I think about a week. Considering our population, I'm sure we'll pass Italy eventually. We may well pass China, but I have no idea if we can trust their numbers or not.

Yeah, I'm almost certain this has been circulating the US Since early to Mid February. Mine was same thing. I could take meds to relieve the symptoms, but they always came back.

But you aren't getting tested unless it could change the way you are treated, so most of us will never know.

The rule of thumb so far is that we are missing roughly 80 percent of actual cases. If we applied that to the numbers now, it would mean that over 300K in the US have already had or currently have the disease.

The strange thing about the US Is since Health Care is governed by the state, some states will for farther than others. That could put a number of US Workers who live in a different state than they work in a difficult situation.

If someone lived in California but worked in Oregon right now, how would they go about it? California has prohibited residents from crossing state lines. Would that resident have to essentially relocate to Oregon for two weeks to continue working during this period?

I'll probably never support stay at home orders in the US For that very reason.

That one can save lives by staying home and watching Netflix. The idea of short term pain for long term gain.

I pointed out there were not even any cases in Arkansas and Louisiana. He disagree stating "That's just because they aren't testing". Now when he says it will be 2 years before things get back to "normal" I take it a little more seriously. A British expert says the US will have 2.2 millions deaths, worst case scenario, and 1.1 million best case scenario. Italy and now NYC may be the model the rest of the country may be facing. Hopefully not. More optimistic experts suggest the summer heat will help the virus die out, but still predict a resurgence in the Fall. Who knows what to believe, but it is clear the White House has been minimizing this potential catastrophe from day one. Since this is a sports forum it is clear that college sports are done for this school year. It is only March, but I am having my doubts about the Fall college sports season taking place as well. Best case scenario, for sports fans, is NBA playoffs this summer with no fans. No way the Olympics take place as scheduled. MLS and MLB, I have no clue. NFL training camps in July? I have my doubts. Really, it's only been about 10 days since the country started taking this seriously, so who know what it will look like in 2 more weeks.

Short term I agree with flattening the curve, but economic hardship especially for the lower classes could lead to many more issues.

The worst impact of the virus may very well be what happens to our economy and it appears to be of little concern. My prediction is that if this shutdown continues, you will think about the economy and all the resulting actions than you will the numbers that may get sick.
