Tax filing deadline officially moved to July 15


They had announced previously no penalties or interest for late payments on taxes due. This is for the actual filing date.

So the whole thing has now moved out. Before it was just payments but you still had to file.

Right. I guess they didn't want tax accountants working 20 hour days over the next 3 weeks and getting sick from exhaustion.

I sent ours in today. No use waiting as I'm not getting a cent back except maybe the money Congress appropriated. There goes one quarter of it back to the gubmint.

Fed and State or is each State going to do its own thing? I have a feeling most would follow the Fed but you never know.

Good point. In Georgia to get an extension all you have to do is file a federal extension and send a copy when you file your state return. So if the requirements are the same in your state, I would suggest filing a federal extension even though you don't need it. The states can't print money so I don't think they will extend payments.
