7 spots to fill again?
This just hit me...Holy shinkes.

This staff came in and was forced to fill 7 spots in a hurry.

With Moore’s impending transfer and from what I have heard Prince is sadly likely done, they could have 7 spots to fill all over again this year (Moore, Prince, Sorolla, both Cumberlands, Tre, McNeil...please let that be all...)

Turning over 14 flippin’ roster spots in just 12+ months is Italian daytime television kind of crazy unless you are on the Caliperi Plan. Definitely going to need a program in 2020 to connect names and faces.

Edit: if one of the Mod Squad wants to move this on over to the recruiting board, that would be a peach. Sorry, meant to put it there.

RE: 7 spots to fill again?
We have three guys signed, so technically only four :) But, since those are three new faces, your point is intact. Yes, hell of a lot of work to do.

We'll be in a crapload of trouble in the frontcourt, so getting Eason on the dotted line would be a good start. It would be most important to acquire the services of a grad transfer at the PF position.

Vogt and Williams are going to have to carry the team next year. Hands up if you saw that on the horizon.

Eason is really important but I would not expect much out of a true freshman out of the gate. Going to have to find grad transfers or a transfer who can be cleared to play immediately to bolster Vogt and Diarra. Otherwise, its going to be one hell of a young team.

With how much of a swinging door the transfer portal has become nowadays everywhere in the sport, I worry a little that a guy like Harvey who may not be thrilled with his current role may add to the spots left to fill.

1) MAW, Saunders, Mason
2)Harvey/Gabe
3) Keith/Harvey/Gabe/Davenport
4) Eason/Davenport
5)Vogt/Dou

Land Eason and things look a little better. Moore and Mcneal leaving dont hurt as much as everyone else.

Bring in another PF and a guard. Lets get that Bogac Karatepe guy

Agreed that both transfers and freshmen (5 stars excepted) have a pretty steep learning curve and won't be difference makers on day one--or for much of season one often times.

What I hope to see is Brannen recruiting guys who can really shoot the ball. Teach them the defensive schemes. Past experiments with "project" players who where athletically gifted but couldn't put the ball in the hoop from point blank range suggest that kind of recruiting won't take UC where we all want to go.

If Mick were still here, it'd only be six spots to fill. Gotta keep that extra schollie open!

I think the rest of this season will tell us how much of a drop off, if any, there will be for next year. Like you mentioned, Vogt will play a key role as will Williams. Does MAW ultimately take most of the PG minutes for the rest of the year? If so, that's a third reliable rotation player.

The biggest questions for me are Davenport and Harvey. Diarra seems like a fish out of water. I'm not completely writing him off at this point but I feel like you have as much of a chance of getting solid contributions out of the three signees and potentially Eason as you do Diarra, from what we've seen.

So you have 3 returning contributors, a couple of question marks in Davenport and Harvey, and a swath of freshmen filling out the rotation (similar to this season) along with some grad transfers (likely). On paper, it's a similar situation Brannen dealt with this season, just in terms of raw turnover. But with them losing Trevon and the Cumberlands, it seems like they'll take a step back depending on how the returnees look over the rest of this season.

RE: 7 spots to fill again?
I've mentioned this in another thread, but I am reserving any sweeping judgments about Brannen until at least year 3 barring anything that is egregious. By then, I think we should have a pretty good read on his recruiting ability and have enough tape to judge if his offensive and defensive philosophies are effective.

If we have 4 spots open next year, I would prefer we use at least 2 of them for transfers with immediate eligibility rather than taking chances on project freshmen. Vogt and Williams are the only key guys we are projected to lose after next season, so roster turnover should hopefully be back to normal in the 2021 class. And if Brannen's coaching and recruiting chops are as good as I think they are, guys like Adams-Woods, Davenport, Harvey, Saunders, and the Madsens should be ready to help stabilize the program by that time.

RE: 7 spots to fill again?
I’d agree on using 2 of the 7 on grad transfers if possible. Would help even the classes out the following year when you lose Williams and Vogt.

Honestly this staff probably hasn’t had the time to even get in on 7 HS or prep guys in the class worth taking for 4 years at this level.

Well, they have 2 commits right now, and they're clearly working a third...so if they get two grad transfers that would leave two holes in the roster. It's going to be an interesting little chess game this year, that's for sure. With every passing day, it is becoming clearer and clearer how much Cronin knew what he was doing when he left.

Think we've got 3 commits right now, Saunders and the Madsen twins. Need big front court/wing help.

You're right, I got confused about Mason with the whole "is he a PWO" conversation from earlier in the fall. If we can lock down Eason, I dont think it'll be that tough to fill the remaining spots.
