Birmingham Bowl: Bearcats vs. BC
Beat down seems exponentially more likely . Having trouble linking but AJ Dillon announced for the draft.

UC has to win this game. Back to back 11 win seasons and top 25 finishes are important programs building blocks.

Good lord...that's a huge loss. That being said, their back up has had some pretty damn good games on his own, so it's not exactly like they're losing all of their production at the position.

Built-in excuse for BC

The early line has us 7 point favorites.

Our group of Seniors will not lose their final collegiate game. Ball game since the opponent was announced.

From the Boston Globe... Not behind a paywall, it just looks like it.

Sound good to me. I want the score to be so obnoxious that Father Lehay publicly repents and doesn't come out of confession for days.

RE: Birmingham Bowl: Bearcats vs. BC
Quote:The Boston College football program is headed south to face a ranked opponent.

The Eagles attained bowl eligibility with a 26-19 victory in the season finale at Pittsburgh on Nov. 30. The Eagles (6-6) will represent the ACC when they engage No. 21 Cincinnati (10-3) in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl at Legion Field on Jan. 2 in Birmingham, Ala.

The Eagles will be led by wide receivers’ coach Rich Gunnell. BC athletic director Martin Jarmond appointed Gunnell interim head coach after he fired Steve Addazio on Dec. 1.

Ironically, Cincy coach Luke Fickell is one of the names rumored to be on Jarmond’s short list to replace Addazio, along with Ohio State defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and Buckeyes linebackers’ coach Al Washington.

“I want to thank Martin for giving me this opportunity to lead our team for this bowl prep and for this bowl game,” said Gunnell.

The Eagles’ three time All-ACC first team junior tailback AJ Dillon’s status for the game is up in the air. Dillon is listed on the roster but he may opt out, forgo his final year of eligibility and declare eligible for the NFL draft.

BC will compete in it’s 28th bowl game, 18th in the last 21 years and fourth straight with a 14-12 overall record. BC will face Cincinnati for the first time since 1997 and are 4-3 against the Bearcats all-time.

The game in Alabama is an opportunity for the Eagles to make up for a lost opportunity last December in Texas. BC went 7-5 and was selected to face No. 23 Boise State on the Servpro First Responders Bowl game in Dallas, Tex., on Dec. 26 at the Cotton Bowl.

BC was leading 7-0 in the first quarter when an apocalyptic lightning storm canceled the game. According to the NCAA, this was the first bowl game canceled exclusively because of weather and it left a hollow feeling among the returning rank and file.

“That’s definitely in the back of our minds but we are just focused on this year,” said BC quarterback Dennis Grosel.

The biggest benefit from bowl eligibility is 15 additional practices. Addazio used half the practices for team building before switching to the game planning. Gunnell intends to maintain the policy.

“I did the same thing as a player and coach Addazio did the same thing and that is what we are going to do,” said Gunnell. “We have a lot of talent coming back and you want to continue to develop that talent moving forward.”

RE: Birmingham Bowl: Bearcats vs. BC
A win against a P5 team and to get to 11 wins for the second year in a row and finish in the Top 25 would be an extremely good result. It’s easy to be disappointed in not getting a shot at the NY6 bowl, but in just Fick’s 3rd year we made the conference championship game and came within 5 points of winning, including driving late in the 4th with a chance to take the lead. Well ahead of schedule and with the recruiting wins CLF is getting on the recruiting trail we aren’t likely to go anywhere but up from here.

I was considering taking the Bearcats Bus down. My main concern was the extra 4ish hours on the return ride. Have any of you guys ever taken one of these?

Provident Travel normally sets these up. Have they announced anything?

They have. I've misplaced my e-mail. It was about $700 for two. I was debating about going down with my 7 year old daughter. I though this might be the best way to do it, but I've always just driven myself. It included two nights in a hotel. Transportation to and from the game. I think they threw in a sandwich too.

Better win the game.

We've done it before and it's not bad. Provident Travel does a nice job and it's a pretty comfortable ride.

We decided to drive ourselves this time for flexibility of schedule and to have ground transportation in Birmingham to get out and about to try some recommended restaurants there.

Really hoped for Music City Bowl so we might stay in Nashville and drive to and from the game.

I'm with you; that Music City Bowl would just be an ideal one for UC and with the contracted conferences it feels like we'll never get swapped in there. I know IU was hoping to be there this year and any of the regional P5 programs would find the destination very attractive for fans.
