RE: Coaching carousel 2019
Looks like Fritz has interviewed for Arkansas and will be interviewing for Missouri (his "dream job"). Hate it for Tulane but too many good openings right now for him not to get scooped up. Honestly, Fritz at an SEC team or FSU would be dangerous. The dude knows how to win.

That said- here is the other aspect we have been ignoring. If jobs like Tulane and Memphis open up I don't see how Napier doesn't leave. Going to be a long coach- change season.

Memphis, reasonable he’d at least listen. Tulane, he’d be run out of town! LOL

Wow that seems like a large number for a team that looks like they are close to turning the corner.

UPDATE: Apparently up to 10 players now.

https://twitter.com/colecubelic/status/1...81312?s=21

Did any of them play a significant amounts of snaps?

No. Virtually none. We’ve had to take huge classes the last couple of years, still trying to catch up to 85 schollies. Invites attrition when you can’t even make the 2 deep in your own class. Does make it tough to get there, losing significant qty, but we aren’t losing quality, not yet anyway.

Still a pretty significant APR hit if all 10 leave and were on scholarship.

Not if they enroll somewhere else. Only kids that don’t continue playing, with remaining eligibility, count against APR.

But you raise a good overall point. With such a huge % of portal kids last year never finding new homes, teams everywhere stand to suffer. There’s been little talk about it by the NCAA, to my knowledge. My guess is they’ll have to not count voluntary portal entrants. There be no one left to compete in the post season.

Combined, how many players have you lost to transfer in 2018 and 2019 now?

Regardless of whether the depth is perceived as quality, the freshman that you're losing may develop into something and may not. You lost two players last season to ACC schools which says something of quality.

App had a guy named Alex Taylor that couldn't see the field in Boone, transfers to SC State and is now going to the Senior Bowl in Mobile. If he can't get to the field, you'd think that is a lack of quality but obviously that isn't the always the case.

The two years were very different. Last year there was a lot of grumbling in certain player factions, about JC being named HC. Lotta social media pot shots on the way out. Part of transition attrition seen with near every coach change.

This year, thus far, it’s guys buried on depth charts. No social media backlash thus far. And the suddenness seem almost orchestrated. (These were the first guys we had enter.). My guess is after last year’s exodus, the staff probably gave a “if you’re not in, considering going, don’t hold the program hostage and wait, enter now.” At least we know how many schollies/recruit slots we have open BEFORE early signing period. Last year it dragged out forever. Could have taken a lot more guys, but by after early period, it was a huge disadvantage.

Again, back to back 30 member classes the past two years will create a lot of guys unhappy with seeing 59 others in front of them. We graduate only 10 this year, so regardless of losses, we should be able to make up ground for the first time towards 85 total (we were still 6-7 short).

Love how GaSo fans love to see our coaches go. Obviously it doesn’t matter who our coaches are. They beat us in the regular season then we go on to play in the CG. They all had us pegged to lose 4 or more games. Yet we tried telling them this would be different than when their coaches got poached and it was.

GaSo fans keep hoping for our demise oddly after they beat us in the regular season. Guess that’s not enough.

RE: Coaching carousel 2019
Right now, Drink would be a hell of a gamble for any P5 school, HC for only one yr and 11-1 with someone else’s recruits, any AD who is half way competent would seriously question whether or not Drive can build a competitive P5 program, maybe he can, maybe he can’t , but do you really want to be that AD who gives him a guaranteed 4 yr 16 million contract based on one yr coaching a SS built team? Not saying it’s not possible, anything can happen during the crazy season, just saying there are a lot more safer bets for any AD willing spend that kind of guaranteed money and basically tie the success/failure of his career to this hire.

His mentor Gus had pretty much the same trajectory. It's interesting how a buzz develops around certain coaches.

GS fans watching silly season knowing we're almost surely going to have the same coaching staff 3 straight seasons (a coaching staff BTW that matched the number of wins Willie Fritz got in his first two seasons).

It’s funny to see the perspective of GS fans. I guess they’ve forgotten when their best recent coach was so desperate to get out of Statesboro he took the first job that offered; Tulane. Meanwhile our last coach took a mid level ACC job and our next coach is rumored to be on the short list for a low level SEC job, which is also his home state. As if that is some indictment on our program lol.

The good news for GS is that their new coach looks like he is cut from the same cloth as most statesboro residents, so we’ll have to wait for some redneck school to be desperate enough to hire him, if that even happens.

I believe so as well teams will be hesitant to throw 4 mill at these guys with only 1 winning season apiece
