So it going over 500 million, while it would be an increase- wouldn't be the massive increase that you're suggesting....
right now- 150 m from ESPN, 55m from CBS (ESPN part might be higher)
new over 500m per year from ESPN
Stever, the SEC gets over 500 million for T2 rights with ESPN and about another 100 million a year from the SECN for T3. We are talking about getting 500 million for just T1 rights which CBS was paying 55 million for.
And what Thompson suggested in the interview was an additional 40 million per school. That leaves about another 100 million somewhere in there to be accounted for. So I'm thinking they may be renegotiating the T2 rights if that is indeed the case.
We already know we are getting at least 400 million from other leaks, but we also know that isn't the final number. We don't know if the CCG is part of the T1 figure or not so there's that as well. But at worst the SEC will be getting around 66 million per team starting in 2024 when ABC takes over. Thompson was suggesting another 17 million. Now if the figure hits 500 million that will be roughly a 29.7 million dollar increase per school. Figuring that the SECN money stays roughly the same there's another 100 million in there somewhere to approach an increase of 40 per school. And not calculated in this are escalators from ESPN and CBS currently. The SEC should pay out around 45-46 million per school this year. So 83 is what Thompson suggested. We'll see. But any way you cut it we are looking at 66 million per school by 2024 plus escalators, and possibly quite a bit more when all the details are in. If the figure for T1 is 500 million you can add 29.7 million to the last reported total of 43.7 million and you are looking at 73.4 million plus this year's escalator, so probably around 76 million. If there is indeed another 100 million from the renegotiation of the T2 revenue that's another 6.7 million taking it to 82.7 million plus this year's escalator. So roughly 86 million.
We'll just have to wait to see, but Thompson who handles major deals for ESPN, the Final Four for 19 years, and Coca-Cola stated at the conclusion of his interview with Finebaum that each school should see an additional 40 million from this deal. It's massive if that's the case. Heck we all were ecstatic at 23 million more taking us to 66 million. If it is indeed closer to 83 plus escalator that is going to change the whole paradigm.
Our 43.7 roughly broke down this way if it helps you: CBS ~4 million per school for T1. ESPN T2 33.3 million + SECN which with the cable subscription loss was about another 6.4 million for T3 where it had been more. So there's your 43.7 million. The built in backloaded contract escalators add about 2 million per year.
So now we are talking between 29.7 million to 33.3 million for T1 instead of 4. Plus about 33.3 million to 40 million for T2 (if that's where the other 100 million is) to plus 6 million for the SECN. Now it is likely that the 100 million more might not be for T2 and could be to compensate for T2 product moved to ESPN+. Until the details are released all I can say for sure based on what we've been told is that the SEC will make at least 66 million per school by 2024 and it could be as much as 83 million plus escalators if Thompson is correct. It's significant.
