Steve Logan was one of the most outspoken people trying to keep USF football out of Conference USA (even though we were promised entry upon qualification), which helped delay our entry by two years and cost us a likely bowl bid in 2002 despite going 9-2 (and 4-0 vs. CUSA opponents) because we were independent. So beating ECU that year (as well as both years we were in CUSA) was pretty sweet. Once we got the invitation to go to the Big East, all we heard was how ECU was going to beat our a$$es every time we played because you guys were so motivated by your hatred of our program. Well here we are in 2019 and our overall record against you is 9-1. And the only thing we've ever heard is that we're the bad guys, and we're the douchebags, but you guys do all the $hit talking. So maybe you can cut Ocala a little slack here.

Honestly I don’t know anything about the situation, but I doubt any coaches had enough power to keep anyone out of the football CUSA, especially a school that was already a member in other sports.

Keep out on a permanent basis - no. Force a delay, absolutely. We lived it for 2 years. 4 schools (actually, their administration) engineered it, with V. Lane Rawlins at Memphis as the ringleader, but included UAB, Southern Miss and ECU. Quotes from Jeff Bower and Steve Logan pushing for that delay were in the Tampa Tribune and St. Pete Times. That's why you won't find many (any?) USF fans who want either UAB or Southern Miss as member #12.
