Eleby or Wassink?
Who do you prefer? In my mind, Wassink must be hurt or Jon is struggling. He has been off on a lot of his throws. However, the play calling has been abysmal. Coaches haven't been putting Jon in the right situations to succeed. I love Elebys potential, his awareness in the pocket needs to improve.

I don't think qb play is the problem here. The offense is holding up their end.

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
I have always thought Eleby has a higher ceiling and with Jon struggling, now would be a great time to play him. He has another year in the system and should be a more mature player.

TL won’t sit wassink unless he’s hurt and absolutely cannot play because of the injury.
Keep dreaming

Let's remember that Jon took one helluva shot on the final play @ Toledo. It was a jarring shot. I'm not sure he's been the same since!

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
There is no way that we use Eleby in ANY game unless Jon is injured to the point where he can't play. Lester didn't like having to use a year of eligibility on Eleby last season... I believe he gets his free 4 games again this year as he tries to get his RS back... so I wouldn't expect to see Eleby in there anytime before the Ohio game.
Be careful what you wish for... Jon has been a little off his game as of late but this offense is setup to work with HIS skill set. Sure they can adjust for a new QB but at what cost? The tempo, cadence of Jon's snap counts, expectations on routes with what and where he wants to put the ball... how the OL protects his tendencies in the pocket. You aren't just messing with ONE position... you are messing with the ENTIRE offense.

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
Cost is obvious, extent of injury is a secret. Lester has revealed he was banged up pretty good at Toledo. If they can get ahead of BG by couple scores expect Eleby to take some snaps. He still can redshirt 2019

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
I think you look at it like this. If Wassink won't improve without sustained rest, how much is the gameplan to protect him limiting our dynamic offense? Eleby looked pretty good last season. If Wassink can improve, why not give him a week of rest this week, against the weakest team left on our schedule? We have to win out to even get a chance at a fifth game, and if we don't improve we may not have a sixth. If we play Eleby and then Jon gets hurt and we burn Eleby's redshirt on a MAC Championship game, so be it. We can't limp in to NIU and expect that bye week to benefit us much if we're 5-6 or 6-5. Or, we could play Alstott if he's close to Eleby.
Or, as might be the case, has everyone earned from Toledo that you can jam our young wideouts and win most of those battles? Was EMU in their faces all night? It may be Jon is mostly fine and teams have just found a weak-spot.
Sometimes we wonder if Lester gives out too much info, so it's probably good we're debating Wassink's health right now.

If we are going to allow 2nd and 3rd string QBs to go 35/41 for 407 yards, 3 tds/0 int it doesn't really matter who we play at QB.

Thats good news!
I also took this as, well hes finally healthy this late in the season and to have him "healthy" for the final 4 games is huge, something we havent had in the last 2 years.....

So... he's still banged up but its nice to have him healthy enough to play this late in the season...
He's definitely been off as of late... However he has been able to sneak out of the pocket on foot lately... The issue I see this season is a lack of continuity on the OL ... trouble making room for Bellamy and trouble at times keeping Jon clean in the pocket... have to wonder if they are cleaning that up as the season continues...

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
Lester is usually pretty direct, if he said "He’s probably back to full speed now" then he was banged up but is probably back to his old self now. OK, then time to get back to slinging some passes 15-yards downfield and clearing some room for Bellamy. This team can win the last 4 and say they improved from last year despite the harder schedule, and if the crazy MAC stars align we can go to Detroit.

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
Good to hear. Honestly, it's looked like we haven't had a QB the past few games. His play the past few games looks nothing like it did the past couple seasons he's played. Compare his play vs EMU and MU to vs Georgia St, for example

RE: Eleby or Wassink?
What needs to happen besides us winning our last 4 games to go to MACC?
CMU needs to lose one more, Ball state needs to lose to us and someone else and?

I believe the winner of the Toledo/Eastern game would need to lose as well.

We're playing the rest of the season to secure a good bowl game for the program. With that in mind, you play whoever is going to get us there.
I see no reason to pull Wassink, he didn't give up the TD to EMU on that last drive. He did what was needed to win the game.
