Here's a nice article from CNN outlining some of his accomplishments (written before he passed):
https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/29/politics/...index.html

"Accomplishments"

Twenty three years in the House and not one notable piece of legislation.

He wasn’t there because of his great mind...he was the designated guard dog or attack dog depending on who was the subject du jour

Condolences to his family.

Civil rights leaders of that era seem to view the world through that same prism even though I think the United States is a much different place than 1965.

I've got nothing nice to say about him, he won't be missed, but condolences to his family. I'll leave it at that.

Civil Rights leader? He died at 68. He was 14 in 1965. You are confusing Cummins to John Lewis.

Yes.

We think of 68 as "too young" nowadays (at least us Boomers). A cousin of mine the other day referring to upper 60s said, "30 years ago we would have said that was old."

Just heard on Fox News that "thanks to Cummins advising Johnson" to help enact the Civil Rights bill. What are they talking about?Cummings was 13 in 1964.

Republican Mark Meadows would disagree with you. Cummings stood up for Meadows when Talib trying accused Meadows of bringing a black person as a token for his side.

Only a few idiots on the left pay any attention at all to anything that Talib has to say.

As for Cummings, I would never have wished him any ill will, but he was much more a part of the problem than a part of the solution.

Yea, I'm good with this ^.

True shame what part he played in ruining one of our most beautiful and historic city's, though.

I know, but he's of an era he was on the coattails of Lewis and others. Similar eras.

He was old enough to have seen what went on in the 60s and I'm sure it went a long way to shaping his thoughts.

Look, I'm no fan and I think he and may others got stuck on the racial stuff even when things changed......everything viewed through the lens of race...
