There's a picture on Twitter from their football account claiming they did, and it looks like a pathetic FCS level gimmick that would make watching unbearable. Is this just a troll job or did they REALLY do this?

Unless they intend to paint all of that in 2 days, it's fake. It's trolling for sure but trolling their own fanbase, they teased "something big coming" and then released that.
