That was a weak call. Not good to miss calls like that and kick guys out of the game. How bad is officiating when you can’t get things right after instant replay. Not just this conference, but we see it across all college football and even at the next level. I’m regretting that the NFL has instant replay because they get things wrong so often.

I agree the targeting was a weak call. However, the kid deserved to be tossed for a cheap shot on our receiver on the ground after the play. This is justice for Jamarko.

I do have to say that I haven't had a ton of complaints about refs so far. Here's hoping...

The ridiculous part, is that according to CM Life, Reid still will not be eligible to play in the 1st half even though the conference said the call was incorrect. That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Yeah, this doesn't make sense.

Also justice for Keith Mixon getting interfered with on the play that ended up in a pick. Sucks to suck, hillbillies.

Yeah, it's like sending someone to jail for 2 months for allegedly stealing.

Then after a month, the Attorney General declares that he wasn't stealing.

But he still has to ride out the 2nd half of his sentence.

CMU rulez. 03-wink

I have no problem with it. As they say in baseball it is a human game. The league has to have a level of respect for their system and rules and process. So if there is later clarification after the game and game time review is over, that is a learning benefit for the future.

Officials are put on the field to make decisions, if we give them the authority to do that, we have to also give the benefit of doubt about what they decide. There is not the benefit of time and contemplation. You’re expected to make a call right now. It was reviewed. The review was upheld. The penalty is upheld, it is enforced. Part of that is the dude is out for the first half next week. Period. It’s just part of the game.

The replay seemed to show Reid leading with the crown of his helmet to me. Not egregious but it didn't seem like a terrible call. Surprised the MAC released this.

The officials need to be able to use some judgement IMO. Targeting should mean you are aiming for the ballcarrier's head or neck - thus the word "targeting". If the defender goes in low and then the ballcarrier drops his head so the helmets collide, that should not be targeting. That's just one example that happened to an NIU player.

And I agree, if it wasn't targeting, WTH would he have to sit out another half of a game?

I get mistakes happen and it's part of the human element of the game. Just seems dumb to enforce the suspension when you came out and admitted it was the wrong call. It's like in the NHL when they call a penalty on a player but also call diving on the other player. If the player dove, then wouldn't that say it wasn't a penalty?

To me, being ejected and missing the game in which the penalty was called should be penalty enough. It doesn't really matter in the end, the MAC won't change the rule.
