Memphis is a top 10 program this year and so will Houston

USF is deep and experienced and they should be in the tournament this year

So will Temple, Cincy and Wichita State.

UCF is an unknown and they are made of newcomers this year. But they will have a solid year

So will UConn and SMU. They should be solid.

That is 6 or 7 teams in the discussion of making the post season

Do we have the best conference in NCAAB this year?

I am a Basketball guy and I can't wait for this upcoming year in Hoops.

I'm not sure about the best conference in the nation, but it's possible we could have a team to emerge as the best team in the nation. 03-wink

Agreed .. I mean have you seen the TSP of that Scott kid that Temple brought in? Top in the nation is theirs to lose.

We may not have the best conference but according to my fellow Owls fans we have the best team.

Cincy with a new and unproven coach and a very average recruiting season will not be dance quality this year. SMU will be better than last year but not better enough for the NCAA tourney. I have little confidence in UConn this year but they may be much better next year in a weaker conference.
UCF lost way too much to be good and Memphis will be good in 2 years but I doubt, despite an excellent recruiting year, they will win more than 19 or 20 regular season games this year.

So we WILL NOT BE VERY GOOD THIS YEAR and will probably not have more than 3 teams in the dance. In 2 years things will change for the better. UConn will be gone, Cincy should be back in 2 years and UCF should be better than decent.

I can not decide about Houston. I would like to see one of the not extremely biased Coug fans go over their top two men at each position and give us a review. If any Houston fan has the time and inclination please consider this request. Thanks

RE: Does American have the best Hoop Conference in the nation this year?
The AAC, like the Big East and PAC-12 conferences, is a second tier conference.

An argument could be made that the AAC may be one of the top 5 NCAA MBB conferences in the coming season.

The Big East, PAC-12, and AAC will be battling for 4th place, as indexed by ranking systems and # of teams invited to the top post-season conferences.

Last season, the AAC and Big East were tied for 4th place in terms of number of teams invited to the NCAA tournament, and there is good reason to hope that the AAC will once again send 4 teams to the NCAA.

Tulsa should be improved from last season. I don't know how we'll stack up to other AAC teams, but we better be pushing hard for the NCAAs or Haith could be in trouble.

1 possible top 5-10 team
1 likely top 15 team
2 likely top 25
3 possible top 25
5 possible top 50
5 bids max (MEM, UH, Cincy, WSU, wild card-USF/UCONN/Temple)

Too soon to say, but the AAC could possibly have 4 top 25 (AP, etc.) or top 30 teams (at some point, in some poll or rating system) this season, and up to 6 top 50 teams in at least one of the ranking systems: Houston, Memphis, Cincy, WSU, Temple, USF, or at maximum up to 6 bids to the NCAA tournament.

It does seem likely that this season will - at least - show that last season's 4 NCAA invitations was not a fluke.

i was talking about this in the other thread... absolutely no one (except tulsa fans) is giving tulsa any credit what so ever this offseason

ive seen 2 interviews with haith this offseason and feel pretty confident about tulsa chances to make the NCAA tourney

Most of us are probably going with what we have read on various websites forecasting the AAC basketball season.

Can you give us a break down of Tulsa's 2019-20 rotation, player by player?

I would love to add Tulsa to the list of teams competing for post-season play, and would love even more to be able to put the Golden Hurricanes above the Huskies on that list.

i'm not saying to rank them high or anything but a lot of people aren't even seeing them as a threat ---

overall notes- finished 7th last season, on a 18 win season

note-able returning players-

Martins Igbanu (PF/C)- 4year starter, coach thinks he is 1st team all conference calibur and one of the best bigs in the conference

Jeriah Horne (PF)- touted Nebraska transfer, did 10pt per last season despite not starting. will have expanded role this season

other notable returnees: lawson korita (G/returning starter ) Elijah Joiner (G/heavily used last season)

note-able new players-
Reggie Jones- 6'6 G, 10pt transfer from WMU, sat out last season- Coach says he is as good as Jeffries (tulsa best player who left)

Emmanuel Ugboh- 6'11 245lb C- Touted Juco- offers from Arizona, UConn, Pitt, Kansas State, Ole Miss, among others.

Brandon Rachal- Former LSU 4*/Juco- 6'5 wing (16pts 9rbs in juco)

Keyshawn Embery- 4* freshman transfer from Arkansas/ 6'3 G.. known for elite scoring and shooting in HS, but shot poorly at Arkansas as a fresh so he transferred back home (*will need waiver- coaches think he will get it)

Isaiah Hill- 3* freshman 6'0 pg- podcast i listened to coach kept praising him as one of the best freshman recruits tulsa has ever gotten, noted how he was the starting PG of the #1 ranked aau team/Adidas champion..

--there are other returnee and new players they added, but they arent noteworthy enough that i feel a need to mention them

coach expectations: lost jeffries but feels he has the talent to replace him plus some, call this his most talented team at tulsa, better than his ncaa and nit years.. says the last 2 seasons were leading up to this year

Rob must have went swimming in the Ohio this weekend...

Our "unproven" coach has been to the NCAA with NKU and actually played UK tough. A single digit loss if I remember correctly.

Our "very average" recruiting season yielded Zach Harvey, who by all accounts is... pretty good.

You must have forgotten that we still have Jarron Cumberland on the team, which in itself pretty much makes us "dance quality". If the other guys on the team can just run up and down the court, we'll be pretty good.

As a Tulsa fan, I'm not super optimistic.

Yes, Michael Scott. He’s a great manager of people and apparently can ball a little too.

was a typo, i meant to type lawson korita not scott..
as far as PG, joiner has been a 2 year backup pg, doing about 22mins a game...the new Pg has already been groomed..

and i mean this in no offense to taplin, but there wasnt anything noteworthy about him, he was the "average" pg, not elite at any one thing..i also kind of feel the same way about joiner, so at worst i feel you arent losing anything if joiner starts...but if embery or hill can step up and take the job that could bring a whole new dynamic
