WMU Defense... in defense.
WMU has a defense that is predicated on speed and smarts. We aren't going to over power anyone at the line of scrimmage. We have some beef up there but we don't seem to play a penetrating style from the front.... from what I have seen we try to plug up the middle and let our cover guys and LB'ers create pressure on blitzes.

Monmouth - QB play from Monmouth was VERY similar to GSU. Can extend plays with his feet. Must spy that guy from the get go. It was apparent that early in the season we didn't really dial up much pressure in an effort to just contain that offense. Made some really bone head individual mistakes that led to some big plays. New scheme and some new faces... especially Eskridge.

MSU - Freaking disaster but again another QB that can hurt you with his feet. He ran over us a bit a couple years back. Game plan seemed to be to just keep him in front of us... didn't really do much to make him uncomfortable. Same culprits on teh back end getting greedy and stuck looking in the backfield left some wide open areas of field that they exposed often. Not to mention we seemed out of place all game. Communication was at an all time low. Too much to think about and it looked like it. Don't forget... They had an ace in the hole in Reed. He would have easily been able to indicate the weaknesses in that defense. He knew everyones weaknesses.... who to run at... who to attack and how to confuse our corners based on the keys they look for... just sayin.

GSU - Started slow. Gave up same kind of ground yardage we were giving up at MSU. Some wide open guys coming open in the center of the field on long yardage situations. Then... not sure what they changed but we started bringing more pressure. Another running QB and we flipped from just contain to pressure. After the 1st quarter we gave up some chunk plays here or there but for the most part we had the GSU offensive line second guessing where pressure was coming from... forcing them into some strange penalties and wreaking some havoc on the QB. We were giving up yards on the ground but it was contained down the stretch for the most part.

Biggest concern going forward? Running defense. We tend to have trouble at the point of attack and get pushed off the ball when we aren't gapped properly or diagnose it quick enough. Giving up 5 to 8 yards a shot. Syracuse may be struggling on offense but they aren't chumps. That O-Line is still capable of pushing us around at the line of scrimmage. We need to really pin our ears back and get after that offense. Make them uncomfortable from the get go... This is all on our game plan and preparation. We can't play to contain that offense... we need to play to DOMINATE that offense.

Our defense looks like it might be a work in progress the entire season... getting better every week. I can already see Eskridge growing leaps and bounds every game. Not to mention that Tranquill looks like an entire new person out there... he's flying around.

GO BRONCOS!

I forgot to mention... Syracuse might be the first offense we have faced yet this season with a pocket passing quarterback... someone who we don't necessarily need to worry about from a containment point of view... maybe.

DeVito does have legs. He's not Dungey but he's somewhat like Wassink in that he moves well in the pocket and can burn you if you don't keep an eye on him. Bit faster than Wassink I think.
