RE: Preseason countdown
So from Big East perspective, who is the team out? DePaul? Know they lost some, but didn't they get some good stuff coming in?

Yes depaul will be more talented than they’ve been in decades. Weems, Moore, Gordon, lands, Jacobs, reed. They’ll be young and may take awhile to gel. Very hard to predict how good they’ll be. If they end up a top 100 team I won’t be surprised and vice versa

RE: Preseason countdown
so assuming DePaul is #10 and out of the countdown, who do folks expect to be #8 and next in the countdown?

RE: Preseason countdown
It probably is DePaul, but they could sneak up on some people this year. Leitao's suspension (and the program probation) are very alarming, IMO; if there is not progress this year, they need to restart the rebuild (again) - and probably reorganize their athletic department in order to put men's basketball in a better position to succeed (since everyone knows nobody is going to get fired).
If I had to guess, I would go with:
#8 Butler
#7 Creighton
#6 Providence
#5 Georgetown
#4 Marquette
#3 Xavier
#2 Seton Hall
#1 Villanova

was kind of thinking Butler as well... Possibly Providence I guess as well.... Think you might have Creighton a smidge low...
The real interesting team IMO is who you have #5- Georgetown. Their season could go really any direction imo.

Probably UCONN. VCU is an upgrade.

RE: Preseason countdown
Is St Johns really that bad? They didn't look good in the first four last year but I didn't think they'd be projected to be that bad. Did they graduate lots of players?

graduate or have turn pro. From a team that wasn't deep- bench played 19.7% of the minutes- good for #347 last year- they lose 3 starters and 1st guy off the bench.

Eh... The Johnnies still have a good roster. They've been suffering from a coaching problem. Anderson is a huge upgrade, but it may take time to get there (similar to Hurley).

RE: Preseason countdown
If that transfer they picked up gets a waiver they’ll be very competitive with three big scoring threats in the backcourt. The transfer, heron, and Figueroa. That’s no joke. Their bigs will be a weakness but they won’t be an easy out

wasn't the transfer from Cleveland State? Guys coming from smaller conferences are by no means locks moving on up. A lot of times, there's a reason why they were at a smaller school.

RE: Preseason countdown
I have a lot more faith in St. John's looking better as the season goes on under Anderson than they had under Mullin. It also seemed like they regressed as the season went on.

there's no doubt, though part of that was that the OOC schedule didn't prepare them IMO for conference play.
This year the OOC for St John's is MUCH tougher....

Was Anderson fired at Arkansas?

yes, but that doesn't make GW11's statement any less true. Mullin was a terrible coach. Frankly Anderson may be the best coach St John's has had since Mike Jarvis.

Yes, he was fired at Arkansas. No, Mike Anderson has never had a losing season as a head coach in seventeen years as a head coach. And - to Stever's point - Anderson is the first St. John's head coach hired (since Jarvis) to have been a head coach the previous year. Mullin, Lavin and Roberts all had not been head coaches before (or significant time before) getting hired at St. John's.
Experience (especially successful) is very valuable in running a sustained winning program. Anderson has done that at each stop (UAB, Missouri, Arkansas).
