In 2016 tax records indicate that the average per team conference distribution for the Big East was about 1 million less than the average conference distribution for the AAC. We know the ESPN tv contract will increase by 5 million. We know Bowl income is increasing. We know that Navy has a new tv deal we will be receiving extra funds from that represents a new stream of income and we still have a CBS deal to sign.

So that 1 million difference between the AAC and BigEast will be growing to over 6 million. Two million in travel savings (if it’s even that much) isn’t going to offset that 6 million dollar annual difference—-and we haven’t even begun to consider the 20.5 entry/exit cost that’s resulting in a lower revenue stream.

I’ve said it before, this was not about money. It’s about reuniting with rivals and giving the fans what they want. If there is a financial incentive—then it’s coming in the form of de-emphasizing football (or dropping the sport completely along with many of the women’s programs required by Title 9 to counterbalance the men’s football scholarships).

It is about a lot of things, including money. And there is a lot unknown at this point when it comes to comparing what UConn would have made in the American if they had stayed, versus what they will make going forward in the Big East.

The current Big East pays about 4 million per team. Writers have reported there is a clause that re-opens the Big East/FOX contract if an 11th team joined. The Big East is going to a 20 conference game schedule once UConn joins, so there will be more inventory for FOX. Not saying this is a fact, but there is talk from some writers that cover the Big East that FOX may increase the payouts to 6 million per team in exchange for lengthening the deal. We will see. FOX does control all mens basketball games, conference and non-conference, so there is no opportunity for the men to get additional revenue.

UConn now has the ability to sell their TV rights for their home football games. Like I have mentioned in other posts, SNY has come out and said they would be interested. What would this payout be? I can't imagine it would be a ton, but let's say its 1-2 million a year? UConn keeps all of this.

The confusing part of the FOX deal is women's basketball. The language in the contract is vague as it says FOX controls "select women games." So what happens to the games they don't control. Not sure what happens here, but maybe SNY would have the ability to broadcast the games FOX doesn't want. Unknown here.

UConn could end up making around 8-10 million dollars a year between FOX and SNY for football, mens and womens basketball. They save 2 million on travel annually. They don't incur production costs which teams in the American will. Their ticket sales have increased for basketball.

I don't see the huge gap that some of you have convinced yourselves exist financially between the two leagues, especially when you consider one has football, and one doesn't.

Factually incorrect.

No one has access to the facts of the deal. It has not been disclosed. Some have speculated that it starts at 5 million and escalates to @ 9 million at the end of the deal. The only factual report is from the Memphis AD budget that line iems the TV deal at 6.94 million per year for the length of the deal as the payment plan (actually Memphis reporters who obtained an (FOIA). The AD would probably have more facts that anyone else who has made disclosures.

"Factually incorrect" is being polite to him. One of the Memphis members here has posted more than once that he talked to Tom Bowen face to face, and Bowen said the TV deal was a straight average per year, NOT back-loaded and graduated.

In addition to that, it has been widely reported in the media that the deal averages just short of $7M per year per school.

So, no matter how badly one sucks at math, a $7M average across 12 years cannot possibly start at $5M and end at $7M. Most elementary school students can grasp that concept, but apparently, not some UConn fans.

Arguing numbers at this point is a futile exercise on both sides, due to lack of exact info, but some things aren't that hard, lol.

Paying 17 million to lose lose 2 million year. That ain't advanced math, is it. You are kinder than me.
