RE: RUMOR: Former WSU football player or coach meeting with WSU
The rumor mill (I don’t want to give away my informant) is claiming the former player/coach the WSU administration sought out is Bill Parcells. IF this is true, the administration is sticking to their usual method of consulting major people with connections for big time moves. (Danny Ainge was rumored to be involved in the Gregg Marshall hire.)

This might have legs, although this is all strictly rumor at this point. I know my source pretty well but I will not put anything to truth on something of this magnitude until there is a credible report. No one is landing helicopters with envelopes yet.

I doubt they would be involved in a money pit like football. This just doesn’t make much sense. When the feasibility study was done a few years ago, there was a family with land just north of campus that said they would donate it for a new stadium. It would take 3-5 years to get a good product I would think, between the players and the stadium and getting the town involved. I just don’t see it.

Well if you’re looking for a waiver to stay at 11, you can just point to WSU as team 12 and then play at 11 for three or four years.

If they put serious money into it we could easily get another Memphis in the league. I'd hear them out first....

If it were a serious thought regarding football... The money would not be an issue.

Incorrect, football can wander off if it wants to. Basketball/Olympic sports are tied together like that.

I believe they can only go FBS with a conference invite though, pretty sure Liberty got a waiver for it though. Also if they go FCS they have to be their for a certain length of time if I remember right.

Yes, still need a conference invite for FBS except with Liberty ($$$). But there is no certain amount time they have to be in FCS. They can jump to FBS like S. Alabama, Georgia St and UNCC did. They may play a transition schedule at first, but after the second year they will be full FBS.

IF we help Witchita State move up instead of taking Air Force, Boise or CSU, then it will be as big or bigger of a mistake as the Big East waiting to see if Nova can move up.

+100%

Y'all DO realize they would be replacing FREAKING UCONN??? RIGHT??? There is literally no way they could be any worse. And they used to be D-1a, so they know what it means to play at the big-boy level, unlike Nova.

Combined, the Koch brothers have over $100 billion. They could literally buy the entire AAC conference if they pleased.

No dogs in this fight, but if they allow WSU time to do it right, it could not be bad as some think. I think if they started now, 22 or 23 could be their first season in the AAC for for football. Then again, UCONN did set a low bar from them to break. 03-wink

I like the idea of WSU restarting their program and they are already in the AAC. If the AAC cannot get a football only member to join the conference, it makes sense to move up an existing member only if they are committed to fielding a competitive team with facilities that are on the same level with their peers.

I think it would be great for WSU to restart football. i really do. And if they do, and after several years of FCS then FBS indy, if they prove worthy, the AAC could look at them.

The P5 programs in that state struggle except for the Snyder years. The Wichita St program shut down for a reason. It was bad football.

There are some good mid-western programs at the FCS level like North Iowa and North Dakota State. I don’t see why WSU cannot copy their models or a Navy model to stay competitive.

I’ve heard WSU is starting football on the contingency that we’re playing AAC football in 5 years.

5 years? you're going to need 2 years just get players & staff..that would mean you'd have played 3 seasons total before joining the AAC...

i can't see any aac president wanting that..there is literally nothing to gain...nothing

and not sure why Wichita would want to do this either, it be atleast 300 million to start with the infrastructure needs....we would let you play with your HS level "stadium"...
kansas also has no recruiting grounds..the 2 power 5 kansas teams get out recruited by AAC members

its a ton of hassle for a high chance at a bottom feeder

If WSU wants football it can happen, all that is needed is commitment... Hire the right coach, make the financial and infrastructure commitment and you are set.

That means same commitment to football that is given to basketball otherwise it's a nonstarter.

UNC Charlotte did it in four years to be bowl eligible (2013-2014 FCS Int, 2015, FBS Int, 2016 1st year in C-USA, 2017 1st Year bowl eligible).
