AD's meeting on Friday
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/...578126001/

By the way, this author is a hack:

Quote:If the league doesn't return to 12 teams for the 2020-21 football season, scheduling and the conference championship game become challenges that must be solved. An NCAA bylaw states conferences with fewer than 12 teams must play a round-robin schedule in order to be eligible for a waiver to play a conference title game (see the 10-team Big 12). That scenario would allow the two top nationally-ranked programs, instead of winners from two divisions, to meet in the league's title game, the preferred method by many around the AAC according to the source. But an 11-team conference makes a round-robin slate impossible.

That is just flat out wrong, as has been discussed ad nauseum on here.

If UConn is used to bolster a weak nonconference schedule, that's one awful schedule.

I definitely don't have any insider knowledge, but I won't be stunned if UConn is still playing AAC football in 2020.

The Sun Belt has 10 teams two divisions and doesn't play a round robin. I just love it when CFB writers prove they know lessa bout CFB than many message board fans.

So, word is that David Benedict highest priority is to meet with Mike Aresco.

Yup--thats not correct. An 11 team conference can use unbalanced divisions to hold a CCG---but it causes some teams to either have to play 1 more or one less conference game than the rest of the league---which creates a whole different problem for some of the schools.

I think it might be in both party's best interest to have football stay a year or two after the rest of the sports leave. The AAC needs more time to decide wheteher it needs to fill or not. The deadline is tomorrow to fill Uconn's slot for 2020 football even if another team were invited the approval process wouldn't be done in time. Not to mention this would be better for scheduling for all parties involved. Keep them through 2020 and replace them after that.

Not to mention this would be better for scheduling for all parties involved. Keep them through 2020 and replace them after that.

Here's what I was thinking. Leaving with a 27 month notice earns a 10 million dollar exit fee. If you leave before that 27 month period---the exit fee is higher---but no amount is specified. The parties must negotiate that amount. The estimate has been that the exit fee would be 12 million if UConn leaves early. But what might be the best option for all---is if the exit fee is say 15-16 million---with the stipulation that UConn football can stay in the league through the 2020 football season. That gives the AAC more time to find a replacement and gives UConn a longer runway for setting themselves up for indy play.

In addition---I would suggest we put that 16 million aside, and add a small amount to it every year so that we have about 18-20 million in a fund by the time the next bowl cycle rolls around. At that point, we will be able to create our own major bowl if we fail to get a contract bowl in the next cycle. Creating an anchor bowl for the conference is the next logical step forward in becoming a power conference.

By the way---how in the hell did UNC-Charlotte make the list of potential candidates? Zero success at the FBS level and zero fans. I think the author just threw that name into the hat on his own accord.
