I agree with your top four. Maybe replace North Alabama with North Florida but I don't have a problem with North Alabama there.

I do see Bellarmine in the bottom four, probably below NJIT who may be turning a corner after this past season. Bellarmine will have just one year of incoming recruits for their move to DI and freshmen at the A-Sun level are more projects than instant starters. They could prove me wrong but I expect them to take their lumps the first couple of years, especially if the conference is as good as we hope it to be.

So you are skeptical of Bellarmine but not UNA? Bellarmine has been consistently a top 10 team in D2. UNA went through a rough patch right before transitioning. I know UNA had a national championship in D2 but I would say Bellarmine has been more consistent.

UNA has had more time to build a DI program. By the 2020-2021 season we are talking about here, UNA will have almost an entire team of DI players with only freshman for BU. I think the transition between the two levels is harder than people expect and BU's success won't transfer immediately.

And, the core of last year's UNA team was freshmen, and very talented. Didnt translate into a lot of wins, but anyone who watched them could tell they will be good moving forward. By 2020, they will be juniors, with a ton of time in game. I'm biased, but also looking objectively, it wouldn't surprise me to se UNA ih the top 2, but at this point, I have to give Liberty, Lipscomb and FGCU the benefit of the doubt and the respect they all deserve.

It’s nothing against y’all, you’ve proved to be valuable as a basketball program, but I’m just pointing out Bellarmine should be fine in the asun.

I completely agree about Bellarmine. I think they come in competitive. In 2020 I’ll put them 5th-6th behind Liberty, Lipscomb, FGCU, UNF.

I know, I think Bellarmine will be fine as well, but D2 to even the "lowly" ASun is a big jump, it will take a year or two to break in and compete for the top half of the conference. I hope they do, the more competitive the conference can be, the better for all of us.

Agreed. In addition to whoever comes in between now and then, BU already has some young guys, like Penn and Penny, who seem ready for D-I. And Bradshaw and Claycomb have already played D-I.

Too bad my man Cook is a senior this season -- would love to have seen him in ASUN action.

I think Knights Hall capacity is around 2,200.
I wonder how their average stacks up to other ASun teams?

This is last year's attendance numbers. The A-Sun was 28th out of 32 conferences with an average of 1,570 per game. I'm not sure if Northern Alabama is included or not (974 per game). I didn't do the math and they are included in a separate section dedicated to transitioning schools. Bellarmine was 8th in Division II with an average of 1,769.

North Alabama is not included in any stats until transition is done, Bellarmine will be in the same boat for 4 years.

We have very fickle fans at the moment, some dont understand that there is a building period we are going through and dont show up, others dont understand why we havent played any big time schools at home yet... lol.

When we start winning more or pull out some big upsets, we will get packed houses back. It's also hard in our area for basketball, you have to be really good before anyone pays much attention, it's a football dominated culture around here.

Bellarmine fans. One of y’all talk to Scotty and see if he can leave five tickets for my family. I wanna drive up from Ft. Leonard Wood to Rolla and cheer on the Knights vs. MO S&T. Tell’im we’re a bunch of Louisville natives too, serving my last couple Army years in MO before retiring. I grew up a few blocks from Bellarmine. Gotta old high school buddy on staff their now. So glad to have BU in the ASun!

If anyone is interested to see our future competition you can catch the Knights home games streaming for free here, and also get a good look at their facility.

And... when do renovations to athletic facilities begin? i.e.- Knights Hall, baseball field, etc.?

Hey guys, happy new year. Been swamped with work and family stuff, but I still "lurk" and absolutely can't wait until next season.

Hope you can go to that S&T game. Give head coach Scotty Davenport a shout at sdavenport@bellarmine.edu, and I'll bet he can "hook you up" with complimentary tix. If you don't get a response, send me a private message with your name, and I can try to reach him (can't claim Coach as a best friend, but we've spoken on a few occasions).

As far as the basketball arena renovations, the men's locker room was done last summer and is sweet (it looks even better in person):
https://www.wdrb.com/wdrb-in-the-morning...e17a5.html
https://www.wave3.com/2019/05/10/donatio...cker-room/

Just offhand, I think they'll be doing more next summer, such as a new arena entrance and an upper deck with a little bit of luxury box seating. Whenever it happens, I think the seating will be upped to 3,000 or so.

It'd be great if you guys can catch a game here sometime.

I can virtually guarantee that will happen. My sister-in-law still lives in the Bellarmine neighborhood. And my mother-in-law lives in Middletown. We get back home occasionally. I’ll have to watch the schedules for when Liberty will be in town and schedule a trip home.

Couple big games this week.
@ McKendree (7-4)
@ #20 Southern Indiana (9-2)

I do expect the Knights to take care of business. S. Indiana could be a real challenge.

Bellarmine gets it done on the road in both games and remains undefeated.

Tough stretch of five games in ten days coming up, including some key games against Indianapolis and Drury, but those and two others are at home in the "friendly confines" of Knights Hall.
