List of coaches considered "untouchable"......
Very detailed reporting on the 100-day coaching search at UCLA by the LA Times. Offered to double salary of Villanova coach.

Rebholz also described the school’s vetting of other candidates through the NCAA and an unnamed firm based in Atlanta. He said those efforts resulted in a list of coaches considered “untouchable” because of major NCAA violations, “infidelity, very low character, etc.”

Rebholz went on to name eight prominent coaches, “many of whom wanted our job, but we couldn’t hire knowing what we know due to properly vetting them out.”

What a let down. I was hoping the list was enumerated.

What UCLA has just been through with this coaching-search odyssey is a brutal reminder that a school’s status as a Blue Blood does not necessarily last forever. Credentials have to be updated every once in a while.

Bottom line, despite the writer attempting to maintain the illusion of a long gone UCLA elite rep, they settled for someone they didn't really want but by doing so, they probably got the best of those they considered.

I liked the part where they acted high and mighty about untouchable coaches but were willing to do literally anything for Cal.

I also liked the part where the writer called Liberty and Belmont featherweights, despite both making the NCAA tournament last year while UCLA twiddled their thumbs.

Well ... I’m sure Cronin loves knowing he was pick 55 from the pool.

Though he will cry himself to sleep in his bed of money.

Typical blue-blood (supposed) attitude.

Sure. Which is fine on a fan message board. Less so from a newspaper. Though I suppose that is pretty much par for the course at this point.

so this article is bullcrap....if the fluff nonsense was true (only looking to certain coaches based on integrity blah blah blah) they wouldn't have offered Calipari.

Long and short of it: Mick Cronin was their 321st choice and it was a total crap show and they know it. This is damage control and its hilarious.

The interesting thing to me is that even the damage control is horribly done.
