Veteran college football coach Tommy Tuberville will run for the United States Senate in Alabama as a Republican, sources tell CBS Sports.

The longtime Auburn coach had considered running for governor in 2017. Instead, he will begin his political career pursuing the senate seat currently held by Democrat Doug Jones. The Republican primary for the seat is March 3, 2020. If Tuberville makes it through, the general election is Nov. 3, 2020.

I'd vote for him.

Name recognition will get his foot in the door. Will Alabama fans vote for him?

I lived in Alabama for about 15 years. I’ve met Tuberville a couple of times in large-group settings. Based on that... yeah, I could see this happening. Of course, it will depend on what he has to say, how he says it, and what else is going on in politics.

Yep. I live in Alabama. Whoever wins the Repub primary will beat Jones for the seat.

I'm surprised Tuberville isn't going after Richard Shelby's seat. It should also be up for grabs. Shelby is a Republican, but I don't care for him, and would even vote Democrat against Shelby!!!!!

I bet his future vote will be just for a tie.
