New AAC Media Deal Announced
@Brett_McMurphy
American Conference agrees to new media rights deal w/ESPN thru 2031-32, @Ourand_SBJ reports. AAC would receive an average of nearly $7 million per school annually

Who is the winner. My prediction was only 6.1. But if you take into account that I have agreed with the between 6-8 million for years, now that is worth something?

@Ourand_SBJ
ESPN commits $1 billion to the American Athletic Conference - an average of $83.3 million per year - through 2031-32. Here's my story with @SmittySBJSBD.

Some deets...

$6.94/team/year average
Doesn't include money we'll get from CBS for part of the basketball rights
Seems to include most Tier 2 and Tier 3 rights
Quite a few football and basketball games will be on ESPN+
Lots of other sports now on ESPN+

Quote:Football, along with men's and women's basketball, will remain on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, but the majority of basketball games and a significant number of the football games will go to ESPN+. Other live sports including baseball, softball and soccer also will air on ESPN+. Renewal talks with CBS have not begun.

I was hoping to avoid that.

way to me if we don't renew with CBSSN, all those games that would appear on CBSSN in the past would go to ESPN+, ESPN trying to dump ESPN3 content. Just my guess

That average would be higher or lower, depending on if you play both sports. So football/basketball schools would likely make more than the $7million. Then we have the additional CBS contract on top of that.

I might answer for BYU, but the othre two, **** em. They had their chance. They'll eventually wither on the vine in the MWC.

Still to negotiate money from CBS sports network. Maybe end up with more than $8m

Yep. Also, they get much less right now from their conference, so they wouldnt be worth more in our contract. And it would cause everyones travel expenses to skyrocket.

SDSU absolutely wanted to stay but just couldn't get the #'s to work without Boise and a higher payout. No ill will to SDSU

So the Memphis numbers were accurate. At least with respect to the ESPN portion.

The annual average sounds nice now, but will it sound nice in 2032? That's a long time.
