Before the 2010 season we lost our OC after the damn spring game. We hired a new one. Hugh Freeze replaced Clay Helton.

We aren't firing a coach who wins 8 games a year.

He was making the assumption that we struggle to hit .500 next year, at which point we’re dealing with an entirely different situation

That's really not what he said.

I am not really sweating it. It was time for some fresh faces and new ideas. It is much better now that we have an early signing period. At a minimum I suspect ASU will go to a bowl and be a contender next year and if the hires are really good we could win another title. Not a lot of holes in the roster compared to the first five years Anderson was coach.

We have far more holes this coming year than we did last year, unless you buy into the hype that Logan Bonner is going to be one of the best QB's we've ever had. (I don't)

This is usually where Anderson can pull in some transfers to fill some holes. With most fo your staff gone, that might be harder to pull off.

I guess I missed it, but we hired David Duggan as DC and elevated former player/coach Brandon Joiner to DE coach yesterday.

Negative. QB is the only one that concerns me (that is a big one of course). No gaping holes anywhere else on the starting roster.

We only have a few spots left to sign and we return a lot of talent. WR is in very good shape. RB is better than where we started 2018. OL returns a lot of guys who have starts. Top two DT return. One DE returns. Several LBs return. Best CB is back. Starting safety is back.

All comes down to a QB who does not screw it up. Get the ball to Merritt, Murray, Bayless, etc.

Talk about a tale of "family ties". Duggan was LB coach at Southern Miss under Fedora while Blake was our OC/QB coach. During that time Walt Bell went from GA coach to TE to WR. When Walt Bell was hired in mid December from FSU as the HC at UMass he hired Duggan to be his co-DC.

- Duggan, who went to UNC with Fedora, Blake, Walt and compnay, left UNC after 1 season and returned to USM as DC under Monken and was the "presumed" interim/promoted hire when Monken left USM for the Tampa Bay Bucs wide receiver position. USM hired Jay Hopson who has had 2 different stints at USM as DC and shortly afterwards Duggan left for Western Michigan as Hopson didn't keep him on staff.

- Fast forward to a month later and the present time and Duggan is now your ASU DC. Did great things at USM and I was one of those who was hoping he would've been promoted to our HC 3 years ago.

As a fanbase, we've pretty much decided that Blake Anderson's hiring process is just scrolling through his contacts in his phone.

Sort wish USA would lose 2 members of their staff. Just saying.

I can see why, I believe one of the few hires he made that he didn't know well previously was our OL coach for the last 3 years, and the one thing that basically every AState fan can agree now is that he was a terrible hire.

Of course, that becomes a little concerning when you lose 7 coaches at one time.

Just to further add to the small world concept, we stole Duggan from UMass, where Walt Bell, now their head coach, had hired him as defensive coordinator.

Earlier this week when i saw on Twitter that Blake had hired Duggan to be the DC my first thought was "I thought Walt Bell just hired him at UMass" and when i looked it up that was indeed the case.
