Eagles getting a win at Dayton would be nice!

It does appear that ULM and UT Arlington are the only ones playing "up" in their last OOC games. Or maybe Middle Georgia and Saint Louis are mid major powers we haven't heard about yet. APB, Dayton, Richmond, Howie Payne (the other "Texas State"), Harding and our old SLC pals SLU should provide good workouts for Sun Belt teams. https://www.csnbbs.com/images/smilies/03-phew.gif

uta playing a top 10 ooc schedule this year with new coach and all new players. in austin to play the teasips tonight. not sure how much of this schedule was put together before coaching change but why is puzzling to me. are we getting big checks for these games or was the new staff smoking something when these games were signed. anyhow, last ooc game tonight.

Uh...point of order. St. Louis is in the Atlantic 10. Many would consider them better than UTA. How you managed to equate them with an NAIA school in Georgia, I'll never know.

I don't know what on earth he was up to there. He seemed to forget that St Louis is Division 1. He somehow assumed that Dayton and Richmond wouldn't be "Tests" for their opponents. And took a shot at SELA on the way out the door.
The problem with his logic is that OOC scheduling is about available dates...not coaches scheduling random D2 nobodies this week. I can assure you that AState would have probably preferred playing a D1 school this week, but of the teams we contracted, none of them had openings this week. The issue is that some conferences already start league play this weekend, and others start beginning of next week. There's a much smaller list of available opponents, and many of those want prefer this week to be a tune up game rather than a pre conference test.
Simply put, most of us have been off for a week straight, and coaches feel safer playing a D2 or low tier D1 this week to get the team back into the groove slowly.
There's no difference between playing a D2 now or a D2 in Mid December. Counts the same.

TXST gets their 11th win of the season today. Game went pretty much as expected.
On to conference play, and back to back games against the Ga twins. Southern on the 3rd. State on the 5th. Should be fun . . .

105-29 win. New school record for margin of victory.
Conference play starts with a bang for us with Southern and State next week.

We played the best non-conference slate in many years this year. Hopefully it will make us stronger. Very interested to see how our first 2 games on the Texas swing go

I'm thinking you go .500. . . . a loss in San Marcos, followed by a win in Arlington.

USA lacks depth so it will be an issue for us at times this year. For our game against Richmond we also had a player suspended. 10 minutes left in the game we were down by 21 points. We didn’t come back to win, but we did close the gap some and only lost by 9. We will have some growing pains this year but I do like what I see out of our new coach and I love the players that are coming in next year.

Don't mind us, we're just trying to complete the perfect day by losing to a D2 school.

I'm a bit disappointed that we only won by 76 points. Im not sure our free throw shooting can get much worse.

We rebounded from an awful first 15 minutes to lead by 12 at half.

Most of the OOC schedule for UTA was put in place by the new staff. They got checks for each of those Power 5 games. I think they knew we would stink it up and decided to get paid while doing it. Though I think the new staff is getting paid a lot more overall so it may be a mandate going forward. Either way I think our program has been set back 4 or 5 years with the coaching change.

ULM lost to LSU 81-69. Smith and Ertel were on.....everyone else, not so much. Munnings had one of the worse nights I have seen from him (3-13, 0-6 from three) LSU way too big. This team can drive and penetrate. Fun team to watch. Can't wait to see how we match up in conference.
