Who thinks regional...
Who thinks a regional channel would work in your market?
Here in Florida we have a Fox Sports regional channel that currently shows mainly Miami and FSU content, along with some pro and high school content. The ACC network is coming online next year, which means the content that they were using will no longer be available.
My hope is that the AAC does not sell ALL of the content for one price but instead has a first tier partner like ESPN or Fox, a secondary content holder which may be someone like Amazon, twitter, or other digital medium.
I ask because for USF and UCF, having leftover content would be a windfall. A regional deal would be solid income for out schools.
I would think that Houston/SMU could do something similar. Uconn can nearly do a regional on their own. I dont know tv in ohio or Tennessee so I am not certain they are close enough to make a single deal.

Maybe...but I doubt it. Regional Networks make most of their money because of the local pro-team rights they own. They own these rights in a very small footprint---but the footprint makes up the heart of the local pro-teams "home" area. People subscribe to get the Houston Rockets games...or the Astros. Theses RSN's make most of their money off thier relatively high subscriber fees.
So, understanding that they have very small footprints and attract subscribers based almost entirely on the local pro sports team---its very unlikely they will pay big bucks for college sports that represent "filler" programming between pro-sports events. They are more likely to buy cheap programming--or even make thier own talking head shows---over spending big dollars on college content.
Whats more attractive to me is to sell the lower end conference content "digital rights" to to a streamer (Amazon, Hulu, ESPN+, etc) while reserving the option to sell the linear rights for a local RSN or OTA network.

I agree with you on digital streaming rights but I am pretty certain that will all be conference money. There are a few teams that have huge markets and local opportunities. I know SunSports would be interested in USF/UCF content. It may not be HUGE money, but if it adds a million to our deal, then its worth it... plus it gives us coverage in our markets which is great for recruiting.

UCF are the Grand High Exalted Mystic Rulers of the Universe. Why would they want to share revenue with your second tier school?

We actually have the much bigger market... their DMA dropped from 17 to 19... ours moved up from 13 to 11. Its why our marketing rights were sold for $3 million a year and why we still do well financially. We make as much just off our marketing rights as we do for being in the AAC.

I feel like Aresco will make the most of our rights somehow, someway. If he doesn't, fire his candy arse.

AC has it right. Memphis has sold tier 3 fb and bball games locally and regionally for a few years now. Bowen talked about it being a $ growth area, and they've hired a guy to oversee production/placement/marketing. AFAIK, UCONN and Memphis are the only schools that have taken advantage of this. I would think that other schools with a large local/regional presence would benefit as well.
