Exclamation Rule Change Needed
In case you missed it last night (and into the morning hours), the wild A&M/LSU finally ended in 7 OTs by a score of 74 to 72. No, it was a football game, not a basketball game.It was obvious that neither defense could stop the other team, being worn down by the length of time on the field.

Perhaps a change of rules needs to be considered. I'm sure others can come up with great ideas but I propose that once the 4th OT starts instead of giving the ball to the teams at the 25 yards line, go back to kicking off, or give the ball to the teams at the 50 yard line. No way can tired defenses defend on such a short field for such a long time. Or just declare a tie after 5 OTs. Thoughts?

FG kicks like a penalty shoot out.

Interesting idea. Teams might reconsider the place kicker position if that is the case.

RE: Rule Change Needed
The player safety issue alone will initiate a change, IMO.

No...tons of flukes that continued overtime. There were field goals, missed 2 points, made 2 points. Just happened together.

RE: Rule Change Needed
I've always thought the 25 yard line start was just a little too close - already in field goal range, essentially.
Starting at the 35 would allow rewarding the defense: stop em on the first three downs, and FG is much more iffy.
But i would not make any "starting w the xth OT..." rules.
Making a rules change based on the less than 1% exception doesnt make sense.

I'm all for going back to having ties. I like the idea of declaring a tie after the 3rd OT.

Every game in every sport should end in a tie. That way nobody loses. Hell, let's not even keep score at all.

I agree with starting at the 35 yard line instead of the 25 for the reasons you describe.

You're trying to come up with a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

The percentage of college football games that go past 3 overtimes is probably in the hundredths of a percent. What's the issue?

UConn would then be bowl eligible. 03-idea

As Tiger1083 said in his reply, player safety with tired players increases odds to injury.
