RE: USF giving out free tickets this week...
Usual rivalry BS comments...

If UCF were doing this they would think it's brilliant.

Sponsors paid, so everyone wins.

Don't forget you Einstein's, we play in an NFL stadium. Big game or not, that's not an easy sellout. 03-drunk Especially after getting blown out by Tulane.

Last, yeah we have attendance issues. You want us to do something about it?? This IS doing something about it. Maybe some of these folks have a good time and get onboard.

Hope it's a quality game. Our team has it's rebuilding issues, but for the conference when this is an exciting game it gets nationally noticed... hope it's a good one. 04-rock

LOL misleading title. Actually not USF giving away free tickets.

Of course I don't blame you for taking a dig at your down-the-road rivals. I'm sure it was meant as good fun in the spirit of brotherly affection.

Not too long ago, UCF did something similar. I remember on Thurs night game, UCF cancel night classes so student can attend and letting all students in free. All students - meaning any HS students and any student in any college. Basically, begging people to come to Brighthouse.

yah this is fake news. First, when you have an on campus stadium classes are always cancelled for football games. Second, if we ever gave away tickets it definitely wasn't to a rivalry game. Probably to a game no one cares about like Memphis or austin peay 04-cheers

No they aren't. At least not at real universities.

find a university with an on campus stadium that has classes during football games. You won't find one. Parking for one is a major issue since the stadium shares the same lots as the classroom buildings.

UCF has to close the school early on weekday games. There wouldn't be a place to park. That happens every weekday game.

Everyone with an ON CAMPUS stadium (approx 90% or more of college teams) know that and do that.

Those with rented stadiums have no clue what on-campus football games are all about...be it on a Saturday or a Thursday night.

RE: USF giving out free tickets this week...
Looks like this one has been picked up by national media:

"With their rivals traveling southeast on Interstate 4 (hence the rivalry’s name) South Florida’s powers-that-be were apparently nervous about black-and-gold taking over the green-and-gold in their own stadium, so they decided to give out some free tickets.

It’s not exactly fair to say USF has worse fans than UCF. USF shares its home with a pro team while UCF does not. Thus, USF has to fill a larger stadium (65,890) than UCF (45,031). Knights fans also get to root for a better team than Bulls fans, at least over those past two seasons.

Even given those caveats, it still may be more embarrassing to give out free tickets to your rivalry game rather than just selling them to your rivals."

They obviously gave them away to the corporation or sold them for ridiculously cheap for corporations to be giving them away like candy for free for the price of the donut. If they felt there was large demand from their fanbase and could sell those tickets at full price, they sure wouldn't be giving tons of them away to Dunkin Donuts...

This is still really dumb. Capacities have nothing to do with who has the better fans; what matters is who actually shows up. UCF could have a 90,000 seat stadium, have 48K show up, and still have better fans vs. what USF is drawing.

USF lost 2 games last year and still had games with less than 20K in the stands.

yup this. Its embarrassing because USiF only started giving out these freebies after they realized of the 50K sold a majority were to UCF fans. Even their coach said he was scared UCF would take over the stadium (we will). I don't blame them, but its still embarrassing.

even when they were 7-0 this year before the collapse they had games with 20K.

Also, USF’s capacity isn’t really 65k b/c they don’t open up the upper bowl for games typically...
