That's a good-to-know.

Regardless of who's "fault" it is, sounds like the culture has really deteriorated in two short years. It wasn't long ago that every player wanted to run through walls on game day.

In fact, given our never-quit second half comebacks earlier in this season, I thought this problem might've been resolved.
To me, it appears that once we got that sixth win at CMU, the team basically went into "@#$% it" mode.

That is a sign of a MUCH deeper problem with this staff. Tim came in and declared that he wanted to make sure that the culture that was built under the last staff remained intact... remained a huge point going forward.

Fleck always preached his acronym F.A.M.I.L.Y.... forget about me, I love you. He wanted his team to be playing for each other over playing for ones self.... This above indictment, if true, shows that this team is turning into a me first culture... Thats no good... that is NO GOOD.

What is going on with this player led "leadership council" we keep hearing about... I think it was introduced during the Fleck years and was a step towards getting the players to run the culture... seems like this council isn't doing much to hold things together right now...

I could imagine something like this happening on a senior laden team where a bunch of guys on the field are mailing it in because its their last year and they would rather have fun, and its obvious we aren't winning the MACC... but this is not a senior laden squad... I would like to think these guys are hungry to win some games... not just in a hurry to finish practice so they can meet their buddies in town or chase girls at parties after game days...

Well, to me, it seems confidence issues more than caring (or XOs or experience), but I'll mostly defer to you being closer to the program.

I don't think calling out specific guys or groups is helpful (and thank you for not going there), but if it's a lack of buy in, ultimately Lester has to fix it. If it's confidence, that's his area too. he's been successful in past head-coaching stops, I hope he pulls us through.

I don't think a lot of posters in here can complain about culture, though. I know I've harped on this before, but Fleck's whole row the boat shtick was about buying in and just keep fighting through everything. The guys in here most vocal about the culture were dropping out as soon as Fleck left. Either it was totally about his cult of personality, or what he said is true and worked.

What really bugs me more than the complaining is guys rooting against us getting a bowl game. More football is always better, especially for a guy like Eleby who needs reps to get better, and the seniors deserve one more game, because for most it will be their last football game ever. If that thought can't reach through to you, you should re-evaluate what loving this sport is all about.

RE: Patience...
I don't see a lot of vocal leadership on this team. That usually comes from the QB on the Offense side, so maybe we lost it with Wassink. I don't know.

But, one thing you see with winning programs is they have an excess supply of vocal leaders and players who LOVE being the ones to make the play that turns the Momentum onto your side. I sure don't see that on the Defense, we do have some players on Offense (Bellamy, Bogan, Eckridge) who are leaders. Need more of it.

RE: Patience...
last year and this player/leaders were told by staff NOT to police the freshmen or hold others accountable - the culture that was built was destroyed early on last season and couple that with poor even inept coaching from position coaches to coordinators to the HC - and the leftovers from RTB are just playing out their years and moving on. they wanted to beat CMU and be bowl eligible - after that when the goals are set low by the HC, why chance getting hurt

Please do. If it is true, I would struggle to see how the one giving that direction could keep their job. If it is true, I don't know how Kathy could justify keeping the current staff.

RE: Patience...
All of these anecdotal "insider" posts just confirm to me the problem lies all the way at the top.

Couldn't have inherited a better program from a culture stand-point. And yet here we are with seemingly a huge culture problem.

Stunning how far we've fallen so quickly. What an embarrassment.
