Spavital did a great job coaching Davis Webb at Cal and Will Grier at WVU, and he was the brains behind the offense in both places.
Interestingly, Texas State won't pay WVU any buyout that was in Spavital's WVU contract (the argument is that they shouldn't have to pay a buyout for an assistant who is "promoted"). Would be amusing if WVU wanted to bring Spavital back and say, hey, you didn't pay us a buyout, we're not paying one to you. But, there's no indication WVU is considering Spavital, anyway.
Saw an article that Spavital was giving advice to the Houston AD on an offensive coordinator (they had been together-I think at Cal) and that was when UH started thinking about Holgersen.

On Holgersen hire.
Quote:"When I left here 10 years ago, I left here with a frown," Holgorsen said. "Because one, I was going to Oklahoma, but two, I love this city and this university so much. Obviously, things worked out OK, but I always came back. I came back two, three, four, five times a year and enjoyed what this wonderful city has to offer."
Well, dang...that's a dig. Was his time in Stillwater that contentious or something?

My guess is that he said that just to pander to Texans who like to make fun of Oklahoma.

That was the last P5 vacancy, for now at least.
I have a feeling that the WVU folks are going to love Brown. He's a solid coach, can teach fundamentals, evaluates talent well, and yet remains approachable and humble.
It may feel like the second coming of Papa Bowden for them.
