Or maybe not, but here's a wild thing with this year

CCU beat UL who beat AState who beat USA who beat Texas State who beat Georgia State who beat ULM who beat Georgia Southern who beat App State who beat CCU

And then there's Troy...

Nothing against Troy, but I think it would be an absolute disgrace for the SBC Champ to have a loss to Liberty.

Then go beat them.

That will save you from the disgrace you seem to perceive.

Yep. We used to get flack for losing bowl games during our title run (Southern Miss and #25 CMU both by a missed field goal in 2OT), yet no one else was winning titles, or games often enough to even be in a bowl game.

Didn’t stAte lose to Central Ark and go on to win the SBC.

Atleast Liberty is FBS lol

Was honestly perfect timing for them. First game without our starting QB. Sawyer smith had a TERRIBLE game. But every game since then he’s improved. He had only 4 incompletions in 22 attempts against Louisiana last weekend.

I'm not making fun of Troy, BTW. Else I'd be bragging about how we're going to beat the brakes off of Troy.

It could've just been an off day or a bad matchup against Liberty, but I have a feeling it was a game for Neal Brown to learn to tweak the offense to maximize Smith's abilities.

5-0 is 5-0 and I've got them at the top of my power rankings but with the back loaded schedule, "them and everyone else" may be a little premature. We'll see, next three weeks should be a lot of fun.

I wouldn't call it a disgrace.

Like others have said, Ark State lost to an FCS team and still won the SBC title in 2016.

Ark State also won the SBC title in 2015, but then got smashed in the New Orleans Bowl by a La Tech team that didn't even win their division in CUSA.

And La Tech fans still to this day hang their hat on that...

Troy lost to Liberty and Boise State. App lost to Penn State and Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern lost to ULM and Clemson.

Based on loses, App should be number one, Georgia Southern number two, and Troy number 3.

App with Fehr and Thomas are likely still the number one team. If Troy manages to beat Southern this week, it's likely going to be App and Troy for the de-facto East Championship game in Boone.

Are conference rankings different than the preponderance of the evidence?

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but the Sun Belt set a new all-time league record for regular season non-conference wins this year. The one we'd probably love to have back is Liberty (and Penn State). Bad loss for Troy no doubt. But we definitely had fewer collective bad losses this year.

Think we just need two bowl wins to set the new record for non-conference wins including bowl games.

And yet if Georgia Southern wins Saturday, then App is pretty much out of the divisional race.

Troy still has the two toughest games on their schedule remaining, they have been pretty impressive so far, however.

It's been a great year, for sure. Especially since we had quite a few teams that were supposed to be rebuilding. Next year may be another good year for the Sun Belt.

Troy can afford the loss to Liberty. We've probably been the most steady team to win OOC games for the Sun Belt since we joined.

As long as they don't win out, we control our own destiny. Their road performance this season tells me Conway and Atlanta will not be cakewalks even if they beat Troy.

Liberty is not as poorly thought of as you think.

Besides, nothing could come close to as embarrassing as it was to have a 5 win North Texas as our champ in the NOLA Bowl back in the day.

Also, we still have A LOT of football left to play. Nothing is set in stone.
