I believe, record-wise, it is their worst season ever.

Don't take the Chips lightly -- Bono is slowly building a top 25 defense. Even though they have a crappy record take a look at where there total defense ranks nationally: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22 -- #32. Buffalo is at #25 and NIU is at #35. If Bono finds the right offensive coordinator we are in trouble.

On the other hand, we are ranked #37 in regards to team offense -- #2 in the MAC nationally: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/21 Ohio is above us at #28. If Wassink doesn't get injured we are probably above Ohio.

Lester needs to recruit defense -- and a defensive coordinator that will put us near the the top 25.

I'd be happy if he just started talking about Defense in his pressers. You can tell where his interest is and it isn't on that side of the ball.

We have an OC running the program. 03-banghead

I agree -- he should be talking defense.

After taking a look at our current 2018 recruits, I don't see one defensive lineman: https://westernmichigan.rivals.com/commi...tball/2018 I would think we should have at least 1-2 DL recruits by now.

I really liked how Ohio kept their defensive linemen fresh by rotating them in and out -- it really helps in protecting the linebackers. Hopefully we can get to that point.

While I agree about Lester needing to recruit defense, you are giving Central Michigan and Bonamego far too much credit.

CMU needs talent to go with a new offensive coordinator. It has little. Yes, it's defense is decent (WMU still torched it for 35 points), but has a long way to go. And its offense is laughably bad.

The problem in Mount Pleasant is Dan Enos - who could not recruit - left Bonamego (who can not recruit) a train wreck and Bonamego has not been able to improve it.

Former coach Butch Jones, & his staff, had several of the MAC's top recruiting classes prior to jumping to Cincy. But former CMU AD Dave Heeke refused to hire any of Jones' staff, choosing both Enos and Bonamego over them. The result is calamity and catastrophe in Mount Pleasant ever since.

A former CMU player, who competed for both Jones and Enos, grew-up across the street from me and we talk periodically. So, I have some insight into the problems in Mount Pleasant. He's loyal to Jones & Crew and resents what Heeke did to CMU (particularly the Enos hire), as do many Chippewa football alumni.

The CMU newspaper agrees with worst season.
In both 1997 & 2000 CMU atleast won one MAC game. Their last chance is is get a W against Toledo.
