I mean, things were dire in 2014 as far as recruiting because of the turnover. Thing is, it's five years later, and these are all his guys and we've been JUCO U lately. It's been mentioned but it bears mentioning again that JUCO signings are not how you build a healthy long-term program. It's also annoying to hear that we have no depth after five years. It's the coach's responsibility to make sure he has a solid roster. He didn't inherit this team just now, these are his guys and the lack of players is also on him.

One thing that really worries is seeing how bad UNC is now. Anderson learned how to build a program under Fedora and UNC is so bad that they're likely the worst team in their state.

Yeah, there was no doubt our 2014 team was in pretty dire shape. Problem is, we're 5 years later now, and we're still apparently in dire shape?

He's desperate and running out of excuses.

Dude is actually what I think of when I picture coaches from the UNCCH coaching tree.

Well, you are who you are and we all pretty much know to ignore you by now so that's OK.

The last defender of Blake, awesome!

Giving him the boot would be the first sign in 3 years we are serious.

He’s not going anywhere barring something stupid like 1-3 down the stretch.

You guys will play in a bowl game this year and realistically, it will probably be the same bowl game for you whether you finish at 6-6 or at 8-4. All the conferences are bound by tie-ins to certain bowls, so other than the access bowl, it's not like any of us can play our way into "better" bowls.

The sheer number of bowl games these days also make it harder for universities to can a coach. After a season where you're one of the 50% of all FBS programs that get to play in a bowl game, it makes you think twice about making a change. That's when mediocrity sets in. That's what we appear to be settled into right now.

You’re incorrect about what bowl we’d play in not being dependent of our record. There is a reason we were in a crap bowl last year and in the Cure a few years ago.

I was surprised to see, in the 44 players on the two deep last week, that 20 of them did not start their careers at Arkansas State. that's an awfully high number for a coach in his fifth season.

It's just my opinion, but that's a tough way to sustain a program, let alone get an elite G5 program.

And, I've said this for a long time. Blake's teams aren't well disciplined. At all. In the game last week, Blake got an unsportsmanlike conduct call that cost his team three points. And, the personal foul in the fourth quarter hurt them as well. As I've mentioned previously, Arkansas State has led the league in personal foul penalties every year under Anderson.

Anyone in the 'Boro know if there are locker room issues? I ask because there was something off a bit when I saw them last week that I haven't seen in the past. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Of all the personal fouls we've received I'm not going to complain about Blake's. That was a ridiculous no call and it's about time he show some fire. However, he has no control of the locker room. We sing and dance, have snow cones every year at the end summer practice, the coaches all dress up for halloween. We are a social media machine and you'd think we'd be undefeated- only problem is we suck where it matters and he hasn't earned respect from anyone.

Who knows how bad the issues are in the locker room. I know they probably don't want a bazillion personal fouls a game but my guess is the players don't listen. This is the first year where this clown show has really stunk up conference play so that's why I think you are seeing this "monster" morph into something else.

Don't blame that stuff on not having control of the locker room. Our coach does a lot of jocular and light-hearted stuff but from watching preseasn practice I can see he's not afraid to shout at the team. It's about striking a blance between having fun and keeping order.

His was the one to complain about. I’ve seen people trying to excuse it all week.

Did he think blowing his top was going to make the PI flag magically appear?

The 3 points there changed the layout of the entire second half and meant we were down 4 instead of 1 at the end.

Absolutely no excuse for it.

It’s a circus up there. The excuses span from the penalties on the field to the mistakes off it. The light hearted stuff is a microcosm of the program under Blake.

It's simple. This stAte team is not as good as previous teams. Those teams had better players and better coaches.

Plus, the conference has improved. I am not surprised with the close losses at Ga Southern and UL. I didn't believe the pre-season hype. Although I support BA, I realize he is not Gus, Freeze, or Harsin. If he was, he would already be gone.

BA is a nice guy that take chances on recruiting kids with more talent but lacking in discipline, football IQ, or some other issue that either causes them to transfer or make it to a P5. Then he tries to mesh it together to make a team. Doesn't always work and it is susceptible to break downs, mistakes and penalties. But, if stAte can rally and get to 8-4, (which they may do) stAte fans should be ok. Not completely happy, but ok.

What makes it worse is the guy who does the 5th quarter stuff for us is a personal friend of Blake's, so it's not as if he's talking to actual media.
Exactly. Not journalism. It is a public relations agent for Blake.

Better coaches - you agree

Better conference teams - please tell me how this year's App/Troy/Ga Southern/UL/ULM are inferior to the pitiful conference schedule in 2011 and 2012 years.

As to players . . .
QB Aplin and Knighten
RB Flash Gordon, Sirgregory, Jackson, David Oku
WR Frampton, McKissic, Stockemer, Jarboe, Griswald

Defense
DL - Joiner, Carruthers, Porter, Starson, Stone
LB - Davis, Q-Lee, Herrold,
Dbacks - McCray, Don Jones, Humes, Hunter, Rocky Hays

All of those players (8 of which went pro) were on the 2011/2012 rosters.

You telling me our talent is better than that? You're crazy.

I don't think Blake's lost the players yet. But after that APP state home beat down in which Justice struggled, there was some twitter noise from backup QB's parent(s).

Our offensive talent is no worse and the defense is worse in the back end.

The league is still the Sun Belt and if we are letting ourselves be worse than any team in this league we are doing ourselves a disservice.

App and GS were freaking FCS teams when Blake was hired and he’s been passed by both.

Not to defend Blake Anderson but he inherited a team with only like 40 players on scholarship...so I get the slow process of filling the ranks WHILE still winning. He could have just went all in on high school players and left out the JUCO players...in the long run that's his best bet I think. But it also would have meant at least 2 seasons of losing football games...and how many AState fans would have accepted and embraced that after Freeze, Malzahn and Harsin...not many. Does our recruiting suffer during that rebuild??? Don't know. Unless we really crap the bed over the last 4 games BA is back next year. BA needs to back off of the JUCO boys immediately and be much more selective on picking up P5 castaways...sign nothing but high school talent this recruiting season...and the same next year...we have enough talent coming back in the next 2 years to be competitive while the new recruits learn, train and eat. All is not lost folks...but the ship needs to make a hard right.

Blake Anderson comments

The problem isn’t the players we are recruiting. The problem is the coaches who are coaching them.

If you gave Sat our players they’d have one loss, Bama.

Most of what you've posted here is wrong except that he's not Freeze, Malzahn, or Harsin.

Better coaches - you agree

Better conference teams - please tell me how this year's App/Troy/Ga Southern/UL/ULM are inferior to the pitiful conference schedule in 2011 and 2012 years.

As to players . . .
QB Aplin and Knighten
RB Flash Gordon, Sirgregory, Jackson, David Oku
WR Frampton, McKissic, Stockemer, Jarboe, Griswald

Defense
DL - Joiner, Carruthers, Porter, Starson, Stone
LB - Davis, Q-Lee, Herrold,
Dbacks - McCray, Don Jones, Humes, Hunter, Rocky Hays

All of those players (8 of which went pro) were on the 2011/2012 rosters.

You telling me our talent is better than that? You're crazy.

Our offensive talent is no worse and the defense is worse in the back end.

The league is still the Sun Belt and if we are letting ourselves be worse than any team in this league we are doing ourselves a disservice.

App and GS were freaking FCS teams when Blake was hired and he’s been passed by both.

Hey man, just admit I was right. This current roster has some talent, but nowhere near the teams in 2011/2012.

All you have to do is look to the NFL - McKissic, Griswald, Davis, Joiner, Carruthers, McCray, Jones, Humes, Hunter, Woodson-Luster all played or made NFL squads. Frampton probably would have if he hadn't torn his knee up in the bowl game. None of the current players will make an NFL roster.

As good as Marcel is, he is about on par with Oku and Gordon. Our "big" receivers are nowhere near as good as Stockemer, Jarboe, and Jones. Those dudes got open, made catches, and blocked!

Don't worry, you can still blame BA. I'm not defending him at all. He has lost the games with his players. But they are not nearly as talented.

As for the conference - App and Ga So are BETTER in 2018 then the competition stAte faced in the years they won 10 games. Troy is better, UL and ULM are about the same.

And BTW, our defense being worse on the back end is why we lost to GaSo and UL. Linebacker play and D-back talent just isn't the same. That stuff doesn't happen with Money, Humes, Don Jones, Q Lee, etc.
