The other choice would be the Cure bowl against USF.
Not a done deal, but looking very doubtful that the AAC will have enough bowl-eligible teams to fill the Cure. If Liberty wins @UMass on Saturday (Minutemen favored by 2.5 pts. per ESPN: not quite a toss-up but close to it), there’s a good chance they’ll get to 7-5 and be tabbed as the Cure’s fill-in.

But if CCU is bowl eligible we would go before Liberty

Just pointing that out since some feel that even if we get to 6 wins

We would be left home and no bowl

We would get bowl before Liberty

I posted that I think stAte or UL would go to New Orleans. It seems to me the New Orleans Bowl has a history of taking a team they think will bring a lot of fans. Why do you think it would be different this year?

Because it doesn’t appear either fan base is engaged at their home games much less motivated to travel.

Liberty could take the AAC spot if the American doesn't have enough teams qualify.

But they can’t go before another bowl eligible team if available

It would be strange to see Coastal sent to Cure just to play a higher-ranked Sun Belt team. But the lower-tier bowl games are already so unserious anyway, that I suppose it’s possible.

If Liberty loses @UMass the whole idea is moot because they’ll only have 4 FBS victories.

My honest hunch is there will not be enough teams (nationwide) that qualify for bowls, and 1 or 2 (at least) of those 5-7 APR teams will get in. If Coastal is eligible there will be a bowl for them to play in against a non-Sun Belt team.

IF...big IF...ULM becomes bowl eligible and is selected, I would hope it's in New Orleans. After that below freezing Independence Bowl in 2012 I want to see a December game INDOORS!!

We brought 24,000 and filled the entire east side stands for that 2012 game...in Shreveport! I think with a venue in a place like New Orleans we could probably match or exceed that. Nah, we're not going to surpass any crowds ULL has brought (it's a far easier drive for them anyway) but I think we'll do alright. If we're matched up against LaTech then it WILL be a good turnout. NOLA Bowl would do right with that matchup.

So many of these games are owned/controlled by espn that I’m sure they could move some around if need be

You are more than likely right, but there is recent precedent of 2 teams from the same conference stuck playing each other in a bowl game. 2015 Arizona Bowl had Nevada and Colorado State because both CUSA and the Sun Belt were unable to fill.

Sorry man, nobody is looking at ULM as a program that can sell any tickets.

Overall I think Karl has been a good commissioner and he's probably 100% correct the only hope we have of getting a NY6 spot would lie with a zero or 1-loss team. However giving an interview like this will most likely not be well received by the other title contenders and I can't say I would blame them.

Unless we're playing latech, I want anywhere else but NOLA.

Our season opener next season against Mississippi State in NOLA is much, much more important than this Bowl game. I want the Dome packed for that game.

Who cares. I don't have a problem with what he said at all. Commissioner should want whats in the best interest of the conference and a NY6 appearance would be huge. He was probably secretly pulling for App last Thursday and he's probably going to be secretly pulling for GS every game until they lose one now.

Just don't do anything like let officiating have a say in determining games to help the favorites.

Back to the Cure Bowl for a second: Liberty lost their game @UMass, so they’ll only have 4 FBS wins and won’t qualify for a bowl in any case.

Plus, there were 2 surprising upsets in the AAC today — Tulane won @USF and SMU won vs. Houston. So all of a sudden it looks like the AAC will be able to send a team to the Cure Bowl after all, and it will probably be SMU or Tulane.

ULM has some crappy fans and our attendance sucks but if somehow we get into NOLA we’d bring more fans than App of stAte would.

I think ULL and ULM will both be 6-5 when they play on 11/24. Winner goes to bowl, loser stays home.

I think Sun Belt get 7 teams with 6+ wins. now if all 7 make a bowl, too early to tell. but Louisiana and ULM will probably get picked before Coastal. and Louisiana picked before ULM.
