Well, the coaches said the competition in fall and spring practice was neck-and-neck between Barker and Smith and claimed Smith could easily have been the starter. We'll see if they were right.

It might take a game or two but I think Troy will be fine. Kinda makes me worried that Liberty will be a little closer than before though.

These kids get so few games through their career, it sucks to miss any of them, much less half a season.

Yes, but Sawyer has played a lot of snaps this season. He played the entire second half against Georgia State and looked a little rusty but got better as the game went on.

Troy's offense will be fine, there's just no battle tested backup anymore.

Always hate to hear about a student-athlete with such a serious injury. From what I've seen of him, he's a competitor and will work hard to come back stronger than ever.

What happened? Did our guys even touch him?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. There was a questionable hit on the Georgia State sideline where one of your players rolled into the back of his legs. No one is officially calling it a dirty hit because it appears the defender was already falling down on the play.

The hit on Tron Folsom during a kickoff WAS a dirty play and should be looked at by the league office. Folsom is out indefinitely with a concussion as a result.

Such a bummer. Barker was starting to get on a roll and was running the offense pretty well.

Injuries suck, Georgia State fans certainly understand. But Troy's backup QB throws just as well as the starter, so there is that. Barker probably got the edge in preseason due to his duel threat ability

Sawyer is also a big time dual threat. He just hasn't seemed to have the "it" factor that Barker has. Very capable QB though. Hopefully he can develop into a beast over the next few weeks.

Tough situation. I know a few Troy fans weren't concerned when it happened because he was walking around fine during the 2nd half, but I remember when Dabu Green got hurt for us against Semo. Seemed to look fine wandering around afterward. Next thing we know he's out for the season.

MRI's tend to find things that don't look obvious.
