What is this, the Offseason??
Hopefully the 2018 team carries on the proud tradition of the Corey Davis stiffarm, and the Flying Flacco and put EMU in their place.

RE: Big Win, hope some of you naysayers are satisfied.
Mentioned this after Week 2... People were extra angsty, and perhaps more prone to overreaction, because it was UM. Every time we play them, we find anecdotes of running into scattered WMU alumni decked out in UM gear, shooting off their mouths. In our sports universe, they're the worst kind of opposing "fans."
Top it off with local Detroit media openly rallying around UM leading up to the game, even though we're both in-state schools and therefore more neutrality would make more sense.

I think people were extra angsty after the UM game due to it being perhaps the most 1 sided FBS game we've ever played. That was an embarrassing beat down and it instantly changed the minds of every casual fan in Michigan that playing WMU is once again a "cupcake" game. We all expected to lose, but thought we could at least make it somewhat respectable. The arrogant UM fans and biased media only made the pain worse.

Well Nebraska got beat down worse than we did the following week... and its apparent you weren't around for our trip to VaTech back in the early 2000's... When we got smoked 63-0. So yes... its been worse... so no it wasn't the most lopsided FBS game we've ever played. Disappointing yes... but we didn't have the best offensive game plan going into that game... and it was apparent throughout that we were spending most of the game making sure we didn't get Jon killed behind the line... Eskridge was not right in that game... you could tell... he wasn't getting any separation from the UofM defenders and it took away an entire side of the field. Then we lose Reed after one catch... We didn't have the horses to keep up. Our defense played the worst game of the season that day...
Just a bad day. Move on.

The Miami game supports my prediction for a 6-6 season.
- Very good offense
- O'lay defense
- Poor special teams
Let's face it, we beat two Div 2 teams and a terrible Miami team by 1 point. Three more wins are going to be hard to come by.
We are lucky to have Bowling Green and Central on the schedule. However Central played MSU closer than expected.

Most lopsided rout I ever sat through 'live' was at MSU in 1997. It was 42-0 at halftime. Lester's freshman season and Darnell's first year as HC. MSU put in their waterboys and the game ended 42-10.
We went on to be 8-3 that year. So in-season turnarounds can happen.
Worst bowl game I've been to was the Texas Bowl. Down 31-0 in the 3rd, and 38-0 in the 4th, before we managed a couple garbage TDs at the very end.

RE: Big Win, hope some of you naysayers are satisfied.
This was the kind of win that you can build on. Team showed a lot of fortitude overcoming a terrible 2nd quarter (2 trips inside the 10, zero points, turnovers...). Sure, it took a missed FG by Miami, but we put ourselves in position to win and we did.
As awful and uninspired as the 1st two games were, I have seen a lot of guts in the last two games. That bodes well for the rest of the MAC schedule. O-line is playing well, we're finding playmakers in space, Wassink is getting into a groove, special teams aren't a minus.
That defense though...
I'm hoping we can identify some playmakers soon. I really like Moment. Young kid with speed who hits hard. Just needs to be seasoned a bit. By the end of the year he might be our best defensive player.

I was in Houston for the Texas Bowl, me and DesertBronco (we got along then). I agree that game against Rice was horrible, we were never in it. Rather embarassing being up in the crowd.
The good part was meeting and having drinks with Acer after the game. He is one class guy, you just love to be around him and hear his many stories. Is he still around or gone to join that great Bronco Corral in the hereafter?

All I remember about that game against Rice (who had a great team that year) was the pass that hit our speedy receiver (whos name escapes me) right in the hands as he was trotting into the end-zone, but he dropped it. I honestly think that early moment set the tone for the rest of the game. Still hurts. Hiller couldn't have thrown a more perfect pass.

I don't regret attending, but the game was the disappointment of the trip. Everything else was great. Met a lot of nice people, met that Old Fart whose grandson used to kick for us. That was a lot of laughs, we used to torment him in this forum as I recall. lol

He could be a bit crabby. I bet he still follows us now and then. Had some good insight. Potter was a very good kicker for WMU.

That was a lot of laughs, we used to torment him in this forum as I recall. lol
John Potter. That's hilarious that you were able to meet his grandfather. He did catch hell around here.
Yeah, John Potter's grandfather. He was ANCIENT, lol. DesertBronco and I played along with him and didn't tell him who our forum names were. When we got back we posted about stroking him at the game and he said, 'I knew who you guys were!'. Like hell he did! I used to razz him about his crusty old shorts in the forum. Good times!
