The next time someone tries to compare P5 wins between G5 leagues...
Here are the current Massey ratings for the Power 5 opponents so far of G5 teams.
Red - Sun Belt
Blue - CUSA
Green - AAC
1. @Alabama
4. @Penn State
5. @Oklahoma
6. @Clemson
8. @Oklahoma State
11. @Mississippi St
20. @Michigan
25. @Texas A&M
27. @NC State
31. @South Carolina
32. @Texas
35. Indiana
43. @Vanderbilt
44. @Arizona St
45. Wake Forest
53. @Louisville
65. Georgia Tech WIN
75. @Maryland WIN
78. @Tennessee
80. Arizona WIN
86. @Illinois WIN
90. @Nebraska WIN
94. @UCLA WIN
97. North Carolina WIN
103. @Arkansas WIN
110. @Rutgers
It's pretty stark difference, isn't it? If I calculated right, the average rating for AAC opponents is 66, for CUSA 51, and the SBC 31.
BTW, the AAC is currently 3-6 against the "G4" in non-conference play so far and are tied with CUSA for the most FCS losses. Perhaps they're not as far ahead of the rest of the G5 as many think and that they maintain the illusion by beating a lot of lower-tier P5 programs?

looks like Sun Belt needs to find a way to get those lower p5 teams on the schedule and let AAC have the top teir p5

TMo insists that stAte must play top teams because they are the ones that pay top $$$. Also likes to play "national brands" like USC, Michigan, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia for recruiting purposes. We do have a home/home with Iowa State down the road.

The AAC is not that far ahead of the rest of the G5 but they are the best G5. If the AAC kicked out SMU and Temple and then added Boise State and either San Diego State/App State/Arkansas State they would be totally stacked as far as G5 conferences go.

We mostly have mid to lower tear P5 teams in our schedule
Missouri next year
NC state 2020
South Carolina 2021
Ole Miss 2022
Kansas state 2023
All those are very winnable when Troy is good obviously

There isn’t much difference between the second half of a P5 conference and the top half of a G5 conference.

Just as we have Minnesota next season and Ole MIss in 20...but there's nothing anomalous about this season. The SBC always seems to have the hardest Power 5 games.

Programs like ULM schedule the Alabama’s and Texas A&Ms sometimes twice a year because they need money.

Or in ULM’s case specifically, twice a year every year

It's really hard to schedule low level P5's without agreeing to a 2nd money game Most won't give you home and homes, and they will almost never pay near what you need for a guarantee.
AState simply will not schedule low level P5's because they won't pay us what we're worth, and it's not worth sacrificing 6 home games a year to get a shot to play Indiana or Vanderbilt.

Very interesting, nice work. The SBC schedules for money, others schedules for wins and image. I wish State could schedule the lower P5 teams and forget the Alabama's of the world but money dicates. Over the long fun however, I believe scheduling lower P5's will produce greater revenue by building and maintaining a stronger program image leading to more butts in the seats. But this approach will take several years to result in more attendance and the AD's need money now. We are only scheduling one buy game a year rather than 2-3 that we once did. Also interesting that the G5 wins against teams rated in the under fifty which is where we need to play for image.

This seems to happen to App in particular. In recent years we have schedule Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami and Penn State while they were down and then 4-5 years later when the games come to fruition they have generally been pre-season top 10 teams or go on to compete for the National Title (Georgia, Clemson, possible Penn State).

Ultimately, when scheduling P5 games, the “Blue Bloods” should be money games, the others should be scheduled as home and homes, if nothing else 2-for-1, and still get half money for it.

RE: The next time someone tries to compare P5 wins between G5 leagues...
The OP did some nice work here...we can certainly say we play tougher P5 teams in OOC than the rest. The AAC schedules the lower tier P5's to get the easier win and get a home and home. I think most of us here would trade with the AAC to get a P5 (maybe 2) at home every year...great for the fans...great for the program. So I can see why the SBC schedules a lot of the top tier P5 teams (money)...and I certainly can see why the AAC schedule the bottom tier (home and homes and easier wins)...but what really stands out to me here...is CUSA doing neither...not playing top tier and certainly not getting the home and homes or P5 wins...

Cajuns P5 the next three years
2019--Mississippi State (Cajuns home game in the Superdome in NO)
2020--at Missouri
2021--at Arizona State
Dr. Maggard has a different philosophy than the previous AD or T-Mo.
He wants our guys to have a fighting chance. He scheduled the games for 2020-21.

We do the same. But we also have a few lower/mid level P5's that we get a game with when we think we will have a real chance of winning. Then when the game comes around, we have a subpar team that year and/or crap the bed. We've lost close to Oregon State, NC State (fumbled and lost late), GT (fumbled and lost late), Colorado State (had a bad team that year), UNC (bad team that year)

Texas State truly missed an opportunity vs Rutgers. Rutgers football program (especially the coaches) are incompetent
