RE: Week 3 Power Ranking
Based off games played

1. Troy: you get a P5 win you get the crown by yourself for at least one week, winners get sprinkles.
1B App
2. ArkSt
3A-C. GS / CCU / ULM
4A-C. UL / GSU / USA
5. TXST

FYI, Memphis is #11 in the new S&P ranking, which proves my theory that they just have too much firepower for us to be competitive.

A win at an average P5 team Nebraska is good, but let's not soon forget the 36 point loss at home to Boise State. I'd put Arkansas State at 1 before Troy if not App. I do think the 3 (Troy, App, stAte) are fairly even, and I expect Georgia Southern to take down 1 or 2 of us this year. I know we are due for a loss to them. And I think they have all three of us at home. I have them at 4 for now, ULM at 5, Coastal at 6. Everyone else tied for 7th.

RE: Week 3 Power Ranking
Even if you knew nothing about football, it has been clearly obvious that as soon as the teams take the field (before the first snap), we look like a JV team against everyone else in the Sun Belt. We have been small and slow. This game against USA is the first time in at least 3 years we at least look the part against an FBS team. I actually thought we did against Rutgers on TV (despite the embarrassing ass kicking) but I saw it in person this weekend. So that is encouraging. But we still aren't a very good football team and don't know how to win.

Still on the fence about App state as well as Troy and stAte

App played well against a top 11 Penn State. But I remember 2 years ago we had #1 Clemson beat in the 4th quarter to only lose late. Troy had a good year but ended up with 2 SBC losses.

Might need one more year to get the entire DeBesse offense in and OL right. Rivalry games are rivalry games though.

1. Trojans - good win that exposed the buskers
2a. Red Wolves - good win over team from top G5 conference
3. Jaguars - Grabbed the first conference win in the conference Saturday.
4. Eagles - was + in turnover ratio, covered the spread, and held the #2 team to fewer points then the rest of the conference’s lopsided matchups. I think our D might have something to tell a lot of folks this year.
5. Warhawks - Despite the score I think ULM will probably give folks fits in conference play this year
6. Raging Cajuns - hard to pinpoint the Cajuns after only two games vs a top 15 and and an FCS.
7. Chanticleers - good victory against FCS school on a shortened week where a football game was probably the last thing on everyone’s mind
T10.Bobcats - didn’t watch the game but losing to a conference foe by 10 isn’t a bad loss. Still do t think this is the year though.
T10. Panthers - not a good showing and didn’t cover the big spread (+27.5 I think). I’m suspect of your Defense

Mountaineers - would have put you at 2a-2b depending on how bad you beat southern miss. Unfortunately, you didn’t play because nobody can beat Mother Nature.

Regarding us, we got royally screwed by the refs. We're talking inexplicable things. Like undoing a concluded play to review the previous play that didnt need reviewing.

It's all about perspective. From ours, we got royally screwed by the refs but managed to overcome it.
No calls on pass interference to open receivers down the sideline. One was literally jerked backwards before the ball arrived while the other was tackled around the knees in the same situation. Another no call when USA was punting out of their own end zone and a coverage man was plainly pushed down hard from behind as he neared the returner. In the first half there was a roughing the passer call against a USA defender when he obviously took one step (or less) before hitting the QB as the ball left his hand.
The waving off of the fourth down play was weird, but these officials were totally incompetent so I'm not shocked. USA quickly ran to the line to run the fourth down play when they saw they hadn't made the marker on third down. The replay official (who was obviously reviewing the previous play for targeting, not the spot) and the field officials were not communicating and therefore they let the snap happen.

RE: Week 3 Power Ranking
Apparently my understanding of the week of the Power Rankings is incorrect. I assumed that because it is Week 4, Power Rankings titled week 4 would be correct because it is the upcoming week. Rank based on previous results for the upcoming week. Regardless, here are my Post Week 3, Week 4 rankings.

1. App State - App did not play due to the heavy rain expected from Florence. If this were a conference game, it would've been played. App plays Gardner-Webb this week and it goes without saying that App will likely win going away.

2. Arkansas State - The final drive to run out the last 7 minutes of the game was a thing of beauty and shows that Arkansas State has reached a mesh point where everything seems to be coming together. That drive is a microcosm of team work from the coordinators down to execution on the field.

3. Troy - Troy looked like the better team throughout the game. It doesn't seem like lack of motivation for Nebraska could be the cause of this. Frost is probably a year or two off from getting his guys in the program but this is still a P5 win against a storied program.

4. Coastal Carolina - Gave up points to Campbell early, however this game was played on a Wednesday before a hurricane in which the eye of the storm passed over Coastal's campus. The win against UAB is still impressive and shows a level of maturity that wasn't present without the CEO.

5. ULM - Solid win against Southern Miss. They were able to hang tight with Texas A&M through one half. Jimbo Fisher is a coach FSU took for granted, as evidenced by FSU's sudden turn for the worst and I believe Texas A&M is likely underrated.

6. Georgia Southern - Solid defense, offense is still suspect but it should get rolling as the season goes along. Clemson isn't a great gauge for progress of the offense as any G5 team trying to run a shotgun option offense isn't going to have a ton of success against that front 4.

7. South Alabama - Seems to be finding it's way under a new head coach. Showed grit in coming back from a two score deficit early.

8. Louisiana - They have the players, they have the facilities, they have the name, but can the coaches bring it all together?

9. Georgia State - Got demolished by one of the top teams in the AAC, a peer conference. I would've expected Elliot to diversify the offense with what appears to be a QB who can be dangerous with both his legs and his arm, but the offense seems predictable, predicated upon basic spread principles that have been in use for around 13 years now.

10. Texas State - Youth can't be to blame anymore. App State has the second youngest roster in the FBS yet manages to compete in and out of conference. How short is Withers leash?

It is interesting GS might hold the key to Troy, APP, and Ark St winning their divisions, all 3 have to Statesboro, and while I don’t think GS can beat any of those teams if they bring their best games, got to think 1 or 2 may look past the Eagles and get a surprising loss. Ark St, your first up in a couple of weeks.

App won’t look past GS, but GS will save their best for us.

A-State gets a rushing team at home in UNLV - so we should get an indication of what kind of run defense we have on Saturday.

While I hope my eagles beat all three, I will settle for beating App.

Troy

App (and they could interchange with us in an instant because we have no way of knowing since Southern Miss pussed out)
ULM (I'm shaky on this but maybe they'll prove me right)
South Al (I think they will find their footing after the Texas State game)
ULL (Cajuns could very easily make a liar out of me)
GaSo
Coastal
GaState
Texas State (We really want you to be better. Really)

Because its reasonably possible that Nebraska was the 2nd best Sun Belt OOC victory last weekend. They are not very good...at all.

If anything, its worth keeping them 2 or 3 because they struggled in that game at different times.

True, there isn't a game left on our schedule that's a sure loss, however, there are a lot of games that aren't sure wins either.

It helps to have the three favorites playing in Statesboro. I believe out of the whole conference, App State, Georgia State, and ULL are the only schools to ever beat the Eagles in Statesboro.

Looking forward to our game with the Red Wolves.

Yet they managed to finish what we didn't last year. I won't discount that win for them because had it been us last year we would have been touting it as a great win for our program and undoubtedly the best win of the week. While Penn State looks like a much better team than Nebraska at the end of the season it comes down to W's and L's. The playoff committee has pretty much made that a fact.

Hate to burst your bubble but you may be suffering from short-term memory loss: Astate 43 vs. Ga So 25 last year at Statesboro. 07-coffee3

Due to scheduling quirks from dropping NMSU & Idaho we have to play AT Statesboro 2 years in a row...thanks Karl!

We will see how Nebraska does. They might win 3 games or they might win 8. Never know

They have played 2 games the other bring to 3-0 Colorado Who Nebraska lost to very late.

As I’ve said before just because App Took Penn state to OT doesn’t mean they will win the league. Troy took #1 Clemson to the very limit late in the 4th and still had 2 SBC losses.
