Mohajir Talks about future of SBC
Reflects on the job Karl Benson did - says all indications are Sun Belt TV deal/revenue distribution is more $$ than CUSA.

Not had a chance to listen but the distinct lack of leaks around the CUSA TV deal would support the theory. Also interesting that a number of CUSA AD's sneered about production costs then they do an ESPN+ deal and have to pay production costs so all-in-all its a wash financially if nothing else.

It was kind of funny when he started going through the list of all the teams we had added and the reasons they were better than the CUSA teams they replaced. The previous success of App and Georgia Southern are easy to remember. Coastal's baseball title is easy to remember. Georgia State's basketball success is easy to remember. And then he awkwardly finished the bit with something that went like "And Texas State's been pretty good too"

There's really nothing I can foresee in the near future with regarding to change. Sure there may be some bowl switch-ups or we could move the basketball tournament. We could even come up with a new slogan or catch phrase. Conference USA does not look appealing anymore, so I doubt we will have any member changes. We could always add NMSU and Liberty and boot UALR and UTA, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty funny. Good interview Kara did with Terry. TM was very complimentary of KB and what he's done to improve the conference. I also got a chuckle at how quickly he responded to KR's question about him having any interest in the commissioner job. Hopefully the new commish can continue carrying the torch and go after that sponsorship money Terry mentioned.

Like GoBig said, the CUSA appeal has washed away. Don't get me wrong, I know many in our fan base want the proximity that some CUSA programs offer and I tend to agree but not at this stage. They made their bed, let them enjoy it for a while.

To me, the Sun Belt sits perfectly at 10 with regards to football and the CFP payout. TV revenue has increased, surpassing CUSA by some accounts and we have a great nucleus of coaches and ADs throughout the conference. Hopefully we can get all these guys to stick around another 3-5 years to help elevate the league up to #2 while battling for the #1 spot and earning that NY6. With continued focus on improving football league wide, the next step is getting b-ball to take the next step.

Volleyball, softball, cross country, track and field. Basically everything but the big sports. Runners up in the Bubbas Cup year after year. Overall the sports are better than the majority of the conference. Just not ones people care about.

Now, now, don’t go messing up Chiefs argument by throwing a lot of facts at him. . . . . He don’t know how to handle it . . .

Bubas cup doesn't take into account Quidditch, or else App would gain a few spots in the standings.

Volleyball and softball carries your program, but unfortunately you and I both know that neither sport is going to get you much attention nationally.

You guys are better than us at Men's basketball though...

We are sort of theopposite— pretty good in the major sports— well except for the 2 years of the Summers disaster— and weak in most of the non marquee sports. Our women s sports are particularly weak

To me, the surpising thing is the number of ESPN+ games CUSA has this year. Because so little was made of it, I was under the impression that there wasnt much to the CUSA ESPN+ deal. In week one, of their 6 home games---4 were on ESPN+. Of course, of the 4 home games under CUSA control this week---none are on ESPN+ (one is ESPN-3 and the rest are Facebook, Stadium, or BeIn). So, maybe that ESPN+ number is going to tail off significantly once the FCS games are out of the way. My guess is ESPN+ is going to end up replacing all the games on CUSA TV.

Like Mohajir said Benson has done a good job getting us more Bowls and more money. To borrow a baseball term he got us on base. Now we need to bring in a home run hitter who can place us at the top three of the G5 consistently.

Maaan that would suck having to search week in and week out for your team's game. ESPN+ (while it has its production value shortcomings) is in the same place every week.

Not sure how many P5 fans opt in for the + package but we might pick up a few eyeballs than early in the ESPN3 days.
