I'm really looking forward to visiting Annapolis sometime soon. Hopefully for a Memphis road game, but not this year, I'll be elsewhere this weekend. Maybe in 2 years.

I wish Memphis had that. Once in the stadium, if you leave you cannot re-enter. At least I think so, b/c I never try to do that.

Yeah, no re-entry allowed at Memphis. I made that mistake once a long time ago.

RE: Best Tailgate?
Navy has a great game day atmosphere and great tailgating in the parking lots around the stadium. When I was there 5 or 6 years ago people we're allowed to leave the stadium at half time to party in the parking lot and then return as long as they we're stamped going out the gate.

I enjoy tailgating at the LINC too for Temple games. After the games you can enjoy the Verizon Center or whatever it is called now with numerous bars and eating establishments. Don't think the tailgating experience will be as good in North Philly if the OCS is ever built. No room in the area like the parking lots around the South Philly Complex.

Hope to hit UConn this year to check out their stadium and game day experience.

Funny this subject should come up. I had some serious health issues earlier this year (congestive heart failure, had to wear a defib vest), and thought for awhile I wouldn't make it. Somehow, I made a pretty miraculous recovery, but it made me think what I wanted to do with whatever time I have left.

I love sports, travel and food, so I decided to make a tour of as many CFB tailgates as I could, and maybe pick up a few other fun things along the way.

I'm retired and with a fixed income, of course, and I saved for 2 years to do this, but to fund it past the first year or so, I bought a nice Canon T6 and plan to post videos on Youtube, and after awhile perhaps I will make enough in ad revenue and sponsorships to continue my trek, as long as my health permits.

My first trip starts Saturday morning. My cardiologist actually is encouraging it, says being active is good, as long as I watch my sodium intake (and my liquids, lol), and take frequent breaks both driving and walking around.

To get as many viewers as possible, I am starting with the biggest schools/fan bases first (and also the ones not a million miles from my home outside Auburn, AL). I am just attending the tailgates, not the games, to save money and time. Anybody can watch the games on TV, not so much the tailgates.

I plan to do vignettes on whatever peeps want to talk about: food, drink, tailgate rigs, products they use, why they do this, etc.

Essentially I go out for the weekend, then back home a few days, then out again, from now until CFB ends Thanksgiving. Then I'm off more or less until next Feb. for the Daytona 500 infield party, then some MLB spring training in March, and so on...

Here is my tentative schedule through New Year's Day:

9/8 Kentucky at Florida

9/15 UTEP at Tennessee (+ MTSU at Georgia later that day on my way home, if I have time)

9/22 Clemson at Ga Tech
9/23 Saints at Falcons + the CFB HoF

9/28 Memphis at Tulane
9/29 Ole Miss at LSU

10/4 Memphis Madness
10/6 Auburn at Miss State

10/13 Tennessee at Auburn
10/14 Talladega 500

10/20 Wake at Florida State
10/21 Texans at Jags

10/27 FL-GA in Jacksonville
10/28 Blue Angels Air Show

11/3 Louisville at Clemson
11/4 Bucs at Panthers

11/8-12 World Food Championships, Orange Beach, AL

11/17 OFF

11/22 Miss State at Ole Miss
11/23 Houston at Memphis
11/24 Auburn at Alabama

*****

12/2 Jets at Titans
12/3 Golden State Warriors at Atlanta Hawks

Thanks. I lived in Atlanta for 33 years, and still have a daughter and grandkids there. Only live about 110 miles south of downtown even now, near Auburn.

I'm a huge Braves, Falcons and Hawks fan, and it's an easy trip for me, so I am always going to have Atlanta in my rotation.

I loved Turner Field, plan to get to SunTrust next year. Also will make the Memphis-GSU game when it rolls around. I attended the '96 Olympics before they converted Turner Field to baseball, so I'm interested to see how you guys did it for football.

And I'm doing GA Tech early so I can visit the Varsity, lol.

I'm pretty sure that re-entry is only allowed for Pirate Club Members. I've always had to show my ticket stub and Pirate Club pass to get back in after halftime.

That sounds fantastic! That's what I call retirement living! You posting the Youtube videos under the tailgate brand (don't want to mention the name in case you don't have the trademark patent locked up yet, lol) you've been working on? 04-cheers

Did any of the Memphis fans check out the new Blockparty private tailgating area they started this season? Or any other fans here use them at your school? I got a free ticket with my season tickets.

Correct. I don't want to set it up yet without having videos, and I don't know how long it will take to edit them, since I will be learning as I go.

And thanks for the encouragement. 04-cheers

I forgot to go over there last Saturday. Had too much on my mind, it was hot as blazes, and my good buddy has a suite, lol.

I def plan to check it out when I'm back for the Houston game at Thanksgiving. Some of my other buddies said there were a few tents set up (they are using the Great Lawn at Tiger Lane). They said it was pretty expensive, but nobody knows the details unless they rent one themselves.

TripleA, I'm very happy to hear you made it through that ordeal with your health. Even happier to hear you're able to make these plans to travel and enjoy yourself.

Best wishes, take it easy, listen to your body, and good luck to your Tigers (except for one game).

(09-06-2018 01:05 PM)TripleA Wrote:  P.S. Mods, I don't mean to derail the thread a bit with my stuff, but it IS tailgate related. I will move to a new thread if needed.

At any rate, I should be able to give first hand opinions about a lot of tailgates before long. It is a passion of mine.

And I plan to fit in AAC tailgating as I follow Memphis on the road when possible.

Any suggestions about my plan are welcome. Schedule pretty well locked in, but tips on how best to deal with the travel part, etc. would help me out.

You need to check out a Nashville Predators hockey game. It’s a great time and a wild atmosphere. You don’t even need to know about hockey to have fun. It’s a mix of a SEC football game inside a closed smaller arena and a European soccer game.

The only problem with UC's tailgating is that too many people wont leave them in time to come in for the start of the game...
