RE: Game day at NJIT
I wonder how often NJIT plays Rutgers and Seton Hall and the NYC schools? That would seem like a no brainer and would develop some competition and rivalry.

Last year they played Rutgers, Seton Hall (one of the closest sets of programs in DI, play about a mile from each other), Farleigh Dickinson, Iona, LIU, and Wagner. They've won at Carnesecca in the past. It'd be great if they could get home games against or beat Seton Hall or Rutgers, besides the obvious power school thing, they're both natural rivals with Hall being literally down the street and Rutgers being the only other Jersey DI public. Honestly a tight home game with either school would do wonders for jump starting their culture.
