Socialism has a much better chance of working among smaller groups that have a strong bond through ethnic and social similarities. An example would be small town America where, if someone is having troubles or is sick, it's common for your neighbor to cut your grass for you of cook you a dinner and bring it over to help you out. In farm communities if a farmer breaks his leg the other farmers will come and harvest his crops for him so he doesn't lose them.
Big city, diverse groups (liberal havens) are the exact opposite of this mindset, but they are the ones that think socialism is a great idea. Really makes you wonder why, doesn't it? It's because they are interested in what they will get, not what they have to give. That's why socialism always has, and always will, fail when applied on a large scale to a diverse population.
