Ocasio-Cortez has many noble pursuits listed on her platform, including tuition-free higher education, free housing, and Medicare for all. Her only problem is that Medicare for all, alone, costs $32 trillion.

Unfortunately, Ocasio-Cortez and her supporters fail to answer the basic question: How will you pay for that?

Ocasio-Cortez also proposed a carbon tax and cutting the $700 billion military budget, neither of which would cover the costs of Medicare for all.

The New York congressional candidate was offered a second attempt at explaining how she would pay for her policies during an interview with Pod Save America. This time, she just dodged the question altogether.

They say 'how are you going to pay for it' as though they haven't used these same ways to pay for unlimited wars, to pay for trillion dollar tax cuts and tax cut extensions. They use these mechanisms all the time. They only want to know... it just seems like their pockets are only empty when we're talking about human capital in the United States: education, healthcare, housing and investing in the middle class. All of the sudden, you know, there's nothing left. All the sudden, the wealthiest nation in the world, we're just totally scarce.

Her response, which states that Americans only pay for tax cuts and wars, is misleading. Over half of the country's mandatory and discretionary spending goes toward Social Security and Health and Human Services.

Ocasio-Cortez went on to blame Democrats for not getting on board with the policies of Democratic Socialism.

“I legitimately think they start to buy into conservative talking points. They get dragged into their courts all the time,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

By right-wing talking points, she means math.

“That's why [Republicans] have won for the past 10 years because they've dragged us onto their court,” Ocasio-Cortez said, adding, “We refuse to have our own strong message to force them to play defense on.”

While Ocasio-Cortez may have said that only Republicans are winning with math-based policies, it actually appears as though all Americans are winning. Job numbers are at record highs and unemployment is at its lowest point in over a decade.
