Well, it wasn't like they were going to be contenders anyway. But if Fedora's seat wasn't already so warm.......

RE: UNC announces suspensions
Some of those are games the Heels could/should have won if they were at full strength. Now I could easily see a repeat of last season... and a new coaching staff for next season.

RE: UNC announces suspensions
Good thing that didn't happen at NC State or ECU, the UNC Board of Governors would have stepped in and shut down the programs.05-stirthepot

Actually I think it gives Fedora cover for the year.

I thought of that too. Maybe a convenient excuse. On the other hand, maybe the AD is looking for an excuse to cut him loose. Could go either way.

Staggered suspensions have been allowed before.

As to what Bubba wants to do, that's up to the Ed Foundation wheels. Fedora did not start the fast and loose compliance problems, he just inherited a system that has been in place decades. It's like trying to stop the back and forth drug trade between Chapel Hill and Durham - good luck with that. A number of UNC's biggest problems come up and down 15/501. In the past they could hide nearly everything but that day seems to have finally passed.

Hiring a coach into the their present situation will be a chore. You still have an element that thinks Carolina can be Oklahoma on Saturday, and Harvard the other 6 days of the week. But to go that way again is very risky. The politics in NC do not favor them as much as they have in the past. The local media is not so much behind them as in the past. They almost face a choice between making sure Roy Boy eventual transition goes well or risking that along with another football foray.

Start your own law school if you can - that would help.

Did basketball players get shoes too, or was this only for football players?

Because they've been done before, that makes them okay. Geez. Do you think a smaller program, or someone like Miami, would get the same luxury from the corrupt NCAA?

Of course not. As I mentioned earlier, NC State got a years probation because some players sold shoes in the early 90's and then the UNC BOG effectively shut down athletics at State. You will not hear a peep out of the BOG regarding this even though this appears to be an organized thing with a shoe pipeline for cash and what's more, the athlete buyers of shoes are not named but they are also complicit.

This type of stuff used to slide under the radar at UNC.

Whores for recruits.

Bounties for injuries on the other team.

An inept NCAA investigation that can't get out of its own way that ends with "we'll just agree with what Miami has self-imposed".

Yes, yes I do think the national bandwagon clearing house of Miami Hurricanes football qualifies for NCAA special treatment and has indeed received it.
