I would hope that $8 - $10 million is NOT the AAC's starting point for negotiations!!! That would be pathetic and inept on Aresco's part. The AAC's starting point should be $15 million.

I wouldn't be suprise if Aresco broke the ice with 25million

$56 million per team per year starting point, 3 ESPN Game Days a year, and one randomly selected coach on Dancing with the Stars.

I see you got jokes... But if memory serves, Mike Aresco did have high starting numbers when current crappy tv deal was negotiated.

Anything being put out in public right now is negotiating BS in my opinion. Whether it's dollars or the number of potential bidders.

Yup. 300 million a year was the ask (but that was with the C7, Louiville and Rutgers still part of the package). I believe Notre Dame was gone by that point.

While Dr. Rudd wouldn't commit to a number, he said the deal will be significantly improved...expecting significant increases. I thought it interesting that Memphis is planning facility improvements based on increased tv revenue.

Good---this further supports my contention that the statements made at a board meeting by Tulane indication they were not anticipating any "significant" increase in media revenue was more about presenting the worst case scenario to support a budget increase than it was a true reflection of their expectations of our future TV deal.

I was listening earlier and just for a split second I thought Jason was about to get him to give us an updated number to throw around. But he did say significant raise whatever that actually means.

Private universities have to expect the worst and plan accordingly.

He may also have been talking about the 2019 year, in which case Tulane would be looking at no more significant money (I assume the CBS sports Navy deal will not add big revenue alone) and the cost of finishing upgrades.

Quote from the ESPN President in a MediaPost article today...

"Pitaro added that ESPN+ is a “priority” for parent company Disney, and that he has been given the green light to aggressively bid on live sports rights as they come up."

ESPN+ Article on Advertising/Sponsorhip Plans

Hard to tell from the quote whether his comment about aggressively bidding for sports content is directly related to ESPN+ content or in general for all ESPN content.

I just like the term "aggressive" concerning live media rights. I would much rather hear that than something like "we are cautiously evaluating future live media rights opportunities".

If you already have ESPN through cable or whatever do you get ESPN+ or is it completely separate. I mean if it is lower tier content I don’t see the issue but the top 40 games need to stay on cable channels in my opinion.

An extra $4.99/month. Would not like it but would allow me to cancel all the other ESPNs

I can say from experience that there's no risk in doing that.

Nothing new, but reiterates an expected media increase. Also, expects Memphis to move into the top tier of USN&WR rankings within a year to year and a half due to increased grad rates and doubling ranked grad programs. Will be good not to have unranked schools in the conference. Ends with projecting that the new Memphis/FedEx partnership offering free online tuition to hub employees should make the UofM the largest university in TN within a couple of years once it rolls out to other hubs.

Gotta love the city of Memphis. Where else does the University president make regular appearances on mid day sports radio?

That dude promotes our sports programs 24/7. He firmly believes that sports programs are the front porch of the university, and drive academic donations.

Thats pretty awesome. Presidential support of the athletics is an incredibly important component in moving the athletic department forward. The transformation of the athletic department at UH since the arrival of president Khator (who is a huge supporter of athletics) is like night and day. Better yet---that same progress is mirrored by the campus at large though improvements in academics, graduation rates, freshman class test scores, research dollars, donations, and new construction/renovations. She just did something I thought would be nearly impossible a few years ago---she got approval for a new University of Houston medical school.

Sounds like Dr Rudd is having a similar affect at Memphis.
