Honestly I've never been to Ireland. Don't want to speak as if I know the place first-hand. But my impression is that the RCC child-abuse scandals have just annihilated the Church's reputation and everything that goes with it. Frankly, I think it's a natural/inevitable consequence. Will probably take 100 years for the society to recover from that.

Child sexual abuse has nothing to do with daily prayer. You might see less butts in the pews on Sunday. RC Priests are no more likely than Pastors of other denominations, or Men in general to abuse children.

Irish attend church much more than the average of other European countries.
