Exclamation Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield?
I thought about doing a "best coach" poll but actually thought this would be more interesting to see who people would pick from the two guys that would probably get most of the votes anyways.

Tough choice, but I will say that between the two Brown is the only one to lose to Tyson Summers (thanks, Neal).

They are 1-1 against each other, both holding serve at home in games decided by less than a touchdown.

RE: Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield?
It's hard to say. If we're going by accolades we can say:

Neal Brown

• 2-0 in recent meetings with APP and ARKST.
• 2-0 in bowl games
• 1 SBC Championship.
• Win over a high profile ranked program in LSU.
• Wins over four division or conference champs (APP, Akron, Southern Miss, North Texas)
- Has trouble with option and mobile qb offenses
- Loss to South Alabama

Scott Satterfield

• 2 SBC Championships
• 2-0+ in bowl games (not sure of the total count)
• Best bowl win over Toledo
• Defends option and mobile qbs well
- 0-2 in recent meetings with Troy and ARKST
- Loss to UMASS

RE: Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield?
I’d take Brown over anyone in the G5

He has built this program back really quickly into something better than it was even in the early 00s

Top 25 AP ranking

Beating a Ranked and 9 win LSU program

2-0 in bowls

Conference championship

Satterfield is a good coach. But it’s near misses most all last season over inferior programs, loss to Umass and lost to Liberty in one of his first seasons.

Fun fact: The week after that loss to Liberty, App beat Troy 53-14 in Troy.

Fun fact: Doesn’t matter. Satt was, and a different coach may have spent the week heading into that game typing his resume. Instead, after a 1-5 start, he got App to be technically bowl eligible. Which we have been all four years. Unprecedented.

Congrats on beating a Late Blakeney Troy team. It’s not hard to do ask Abilene Christian university.

RE: Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield?
One comment about SS...App lost their DC and apparent DC-in-waiting and still made an internal hire for DC. If App can do that and still have a dominant defense IMO that might solidify Satterfield as #1. That would show you're not only football smart, but a good manager, too. Would Troy field a good defense if Koenning left?

BTW, I think P5 wins are definitely good for programs but as far as evaluating coaches it isn't everything. Satterfield gave his team a chance to win against Tennessee and Wake Forest. Getting those wins can be the difference between making one play.

We're 3-0 in bowls. First team to make three bowls in the first three years of eligibility and win them.

Or one FG, but I won't beat a dead horse. Satt coached both games extremely well, though the final regulation drive against the Vols did raise some questions about clock management and play calling.

Let's not forget that during our first year in the SBC, when everyone here said we'd get steamrolled, Scott finished the season on a 6 game win streak that included road wins at Troy, LaLa and stAte.

Apparently, it was a lot easier than beating Liberty. As were the five other conference wins we got to end the year. Counting that win over Troy, App is 36-10 since Liberty.

Satterfield can be officially #1, I don't care, in fact media outlets and the SBC should promote it that way. Maybe, that way he will get hired away and we can keep CNB around.

RE: Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield?
I could have predicted where this thread was going. Note not a App or TROY fan started it. Both are good coaches and I think headed for a much better pay day soon. However, neither can guarantee the success they have had NOT WITH THEIR FUTURE TEAMS but both are literally idolized where they are now and could sustain what they are doingpretty well. Of course both will want more challenges but to leave their program for ANY P5 will probably not happen. PJ Flexk at Minnesota, Hawkins years ago to Colorado from Boise. A pretty good pay day and happiness is worth a great deal when you know that 10 years of making 7 million is better than 4 years of making 4 million before getting fired. Their agents may want a fast pay check but honestly being patient at this point in their careers is probably the best move. Peterson at Washington is a great example and both of these guys seem pretty smart. I would not be shocked to see both stay just a little longer to follow the Peterson model instead of the Hawkins model leaving Boise.

RE: Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield?
Both took over programs from multiple decade coaching legends that stayed a couple years too long at their respective schools. They have taken the programs at their low points for the past 20 years and currently sit at a high point.

No G5 or 90% of P5s look at their schedule and look past going up against either of these guys.

Deciding between the two is a non-starter.
