For those that hate tariffs
"The U.S. ambassador to Germany has told German car bosses that President Donald Trump would suspend threats to impose tariffs on cars imported from the European Union if the bloc lifted duties on U.S. cars, a German newspaper reported on Wednesday."

RE: For those that hate tariffs
it's amazing what one can accomplish with some common sense and the USD in the palm of their hand as the 'clout of negotiators'.....

this IS only the beginning.....

he's redefining what should have been done long ago....

isn't it ironic a non-politician is at the helm and the career fagoos continue to fold their hand or whine with cheese thinking 7-2 'trumps' contunues A-A pre-flop....couldn't have asked for a better scenario than how this has played out to date

I asked a guy today, "what if hill-lair-liar had won? how comfy would you feel at this point???"

quite the wry grin in return from a black cat.......that's what's really yummy.....

y'all don't have a clue what I'm seeing as the USD churns.....

the day of 'as goes cali, so goes the nation'.......

WRONG MOTHERFOKKKKKKKKKKKERS

So they were imposing tariffs on US cars but were throwing a hissy fit when we threatened to do so for EU cars?

Wash, rinse, repeat for every other country and every other product we export. Some dont seem to get this.

Exactly. That’s why the concerns of a tariff war were overblown. There already is a tariff war and we we have already lost because we never even bothered to fight the battle. By actually retaliating—we now have the leverage to open up markets that were largely closed to us.

Yes as are the other countries throwing a tantrum.

Trump just gets it, really.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think both sides were imposing tariffs. The issue was the tariffs were for the most part disproportionate with foreing nations imposing higher tariffs. Trump merely wants to level the playing field and the other countries, and D's of course, threw a fit. Tariffs aren't going away, they just need to be fair to both sides.

Trump doesn't just bow at every other country. Obama bent the knee to be liked and fricked us for 8 years.

It's hard to take the hard stand against the market cheaters seriously until we draw the line with China. Going as far back as the '70s and the China tariff agreement, I've never understood the idea of opening our markets to state-run companies operating with dirt cheap labor. They've had us spread eagled for decades.

Germany, Canada? Meh.

Every damned one of those countries needs us more than we need them. Glad we're finally acting like it.

To all of these countries that want 'free trade', Trump has proposed to just drop all tariffs on everything if other countries matched that offer. Funny how no country offered to do that. Past USA leaders have let other countries put it to us on these tariffs. No more.

The problem with this thinking is that tariffs affect the exchange rate just as much as they affect buying patterns. Tariffs on foreign goods result in a stronger US dollar, increasing the price of US-made goods to Germans (and thus reducing US exports).

The net result is that tariffs are just a way of shooting yourself in the foot.

EU has a 10% tariff on American autos exported to European countries and USA charges Euro automakers 2.5%. Likely that it could be 0% soon.

Germany willing to cut tariffs on US cars, lifting automakers’ shares
https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics...omakers-shares
On Wednesday, the chief executives of prominent German auto companies – including Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen – “liked” a Trump administration proposal for both sides to reduce those tariffs to zero, according to German business news outlet Handelsblatt. The proposal was said to have been made by U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell during a meeting at the U.S. embassy.

The EU tariff rate on all U.S. car imports is 10% while the U.S. tariff on imported European cars is 2.5%.

Trump has been saying for decades, as far back as the 80's on Oprah's TV show.

I thought it was a horrible mistake to admit China to the WTO. It throws all kinds of red tape to fighting against their trade abuses.

That was on both Clinton and W.
