Everyone knows that it is possible to double or triple team the post. What happens if we move JT4 out to the perimeter with say Rafus at the other forward spot.
Does it force opposing teams to guard us literally man to man with no double teams? How does a team double team a PF? How would a team double team a SF, say Rafus? Would a guard sag off of Minnie to double Rafus? I'd think that would be suicidal.

What I'm getting at if a team has four very good shooters at PG, SG, SF, and PG, how does a team defend it? Does a defender just collapse on the guy who got the ball, thereby leaving his man wide open? Always leaves the center even up, no double team to get the 'garbage buckets.'

I'm not sure of a center moving out to the wing to guard a 3-ball shooter which would leave the lane wide open. How would a center like "big dog' move as if he was 225 lbs., not a big horse.

Best I can remember is watching the Cavs as teams tried to double team LeBron and seeing Love kill them from the outside while LeBron accumulates a bunch of assists.

for examples of how teams defended "4 out, 1 in" offensive teams, watch the 2009 Orlando Magic team play. other teams had to make that decision against them. the finals from that year are a great example.

if we move Thompson out to the perimeter on offense, opposing teams will leave him unguarded. Big Dog would sag off him if we had Thompson on the perimeter. also, Jackson is not a good 3-point shooter, so his defender would sag off as well, if that defender was needed to help in the paint.

can Toure shoot? are you expecting him to spend any time outside?

Okay. That said, I would not move JT4 to PF. I don't know if the staff is just experimenting with things just to see.

To me, the perfect front line is Minnie and Rafus on the wings and hope they are consistent enough to prevent a forward from sagging on JT4.

I guess the question is who is the weakest outside shooter (1, 2, 3, or 4) and would his man sag off to double JT4.

RE: Men's Hoops and Women's Hoops
I wasn't a fan of the experiment of having JT4 on the wing a couple seasons ago, and I'd rather not start now. His jumper isn't good enough for opponents to respect it, which will just clog the lane for someone else, and he's too slow to play the wing of the zone. He's a perfect center for what we try to do on both ends.

I'd prefer a lineup of Jackson/McAdoo/Groce/Minnie/Thompson. I won't speak for Rafus just yet, but if he's good enough to start, it would likely be at McAdoo's expense to add more length. Any lineup with a strong group of outside shooters needs the point guard to create for them. Paul Jackson will be our most important player next season, in my opinion, strictly because when he is on top of his game (like the end of this past season), it makes life for Minnie and Thompson so much easier. When he beats his man and plays with his head up, he forces help defenders to choose between leaving Thompson for an easy layup, leaving Minnie (or another shooter) for an open shot, or leaving Jackson himself for a layup. Pick your poison.

Paul didn't always make the best decisions, but I was very encouraged by his play down the stretch. He looked confident, and he looked like a point guard. If he can maintain that level of play for most of a season, then that will mean improved numbers for our other two studs, and a team that no one in our conference will want to go up against.

Good thing Murphy will use practice time to explain this all to his point guard........ DOH!

Just kidding. Last thing I want is a "Murphy coaching" debate in the middle of the summer.

Yep. Maybe July is the 'silly season' for MBB (for all teams).

With over four months to go before the first game, teams can experiment to their heart's delight.

If Nobles was still around, he could audition at PG... 03-lmfao

RE: Men's Hoops and Women's Hoops
BTW, now that we are in the first week of July I would expect all players to be on campus. And once that happens, Sports Info can release the 2018/9 roster.

As I indicated, I met Toure and Stephens so they are obviously on campus. Once Rafus is on campus and starts practicing we should see a roster.

He shows up in the student directory on the school website, so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he’s with the team.

Think he is due next week. I assume once he shows up EMU can release an updated roster.

RE: Men's Hoops and Women's Hoops
What should be interesting is how teams conduct these training sessions during July with the Summer evaluation period.

EMU has 4 coaches, i.e., Murphy, Mondro, Cline, and Wooten. Wooten is obviously very involved in recruiting. Will EMU send two out recruiting and two running the fort back in Ypsi?

I can't get this to come up.

I suspect that Toure will be a real defensive presence and offense a 'work in progress.'

I want to see if he is a Riley like defender, very tall, good defensive instincts, etc. Lest I be wrong, defensive and offensive instincts are very, very different. Being good at one doesn't necessarily make one good at the other.

I take this Tweet to indicate that Parris is on campus and time to go (getting going on his EMU career).

We have to give credit where credit is due and Murphy recruits good kids (excluding James Still). Paul Jackson is stellar on the floor and in the classroom.

EMU still hasn't add the 4 newcomers to the online roster, but #12 Jalen Brown has been deleted in the latest online roster.

In the videos of practice, #12 is now Toure.
