He never imagined we would be dumb enough to elect a demogouge like obama that would do all those things without at least waving the flag. Trade war was lost to our "friends", our economy was stagnant, our secretary of state had a server in the toilet, and the free world saw us as anemic.

Renegotiating crappy trade deals, made by people without the first clue about what they were doing other than the desire to spread the wealth of the U.S. to everyone else, is not “starting a trade war”.

We’ve been getting our asses handed to us with a wry smile on our “partners” faces ever since Ronaldus Maximus.

A trade deficit or surplus is not, by itself, indicative of an unfair trade balance brought on by unfair trade practices.

I was paying around $2 to $2.50 a few years ago. (And this is for the generic Great Value brand BTW - but I fail to taste a difference from a "name" brand)

Allow me to regale you with one of my favorite stories about capitalism and the power of the marketplace. This story was told to me from a person in the know and as far as I can understand is 100% true

Many groups used to advocate against the use of growth hormones in cows but it didn't get a lot of traction with Big Dairy. Growth hormones were used in milk cows and the only organic or growth hormone free milk you could purchase was from expensive specialty providers.

But one day, Walmart hired into the dairy buying operation two young college MBA graduates who's job was to help design the dairy buying strategy and the dairy marketing strategy for Walmart. They travel the country speaking to other buyers, farmers, Big Dairy, food scientists, supply chain, and everyone else associated with milk.

After five years one of these graduates is promoted and finds himself in a position to decide the buying strategy for milk for the Walmart dairy team and Walmart decides, almost on a whim, to only purchase growth hormone free milk.

And because of the volume of milk sold at Walmart, within a year Big Dairy stops supporting growth hormones in milk cows across the country and all milk sold in the dairy industry is growth hormone free.

Remember this story the next time someone tells you Walmart is evil.

I know of an unnamed fast food restaurant where they hired some young foods person who is changing things in that direction (no GMOs, all that sort of stuff). She really doesn't understand the science. She's the type who listens to the Food Babe.
