Mayor Of Oakland Has Bill Named After Her
Quote:Libby Schaaf, the rebellious mayor of Oakland, California, is now the subject of a new proposed piece of legislation. The Mayor Libby Schaaf Act, introduced by Rep. Steve King (R-IA), would fine or imprison any government official who warns their community about an upcoming ICE raid. The sentence would go up to five years.
In February, Schaaf decided to inform her community on social media that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were going to be conducting a raid in the area in the next 24 hours. Her heads up gave hundreds of illegal immigrants the chance to flee. Many of them had violent records and, having escaped ICE's grasp, a few of those individuals proceeded to commit more crimes, according to ICE officials.
That's not how the Justice Department saw it. In a press conference, Attorney General Jeff Sessions warned Schaaf that the administration was considering whether or not to take disciplinary action against her.
Rep. King certainly believes Schaaf's actions warrant an arrest.
“I want lawless, sanctuary city politicians to hear this message clearly: if you obstruct ICE, you are going to end up in the cooler,” King said in a statement about his new bill.

This seems largely just to generate buzz, state/city officials currently have no protection from Federal Prosecution.
Well... ok they do in one very narrow way. The State can shield the official under Sovereign Immunity, but if they attempt to do that... that then triggers other clauses in Federal and the state may lose all direct federal funding for specific social programs, which effectively would cause the state to go bankrupt. And as much as a State may want to protect a small time official, they aren't going to tank their entire state to make a point.
The Feds can go in and arrest anyone they want once a Federal Grand Jury has issued an Indictment; and it really is possible to indict a ham sandwich if they wanted to. Indictments are pretty much never denied when requested.
Once these local politicians realize that they will be locked up this stuff will stop instantly. They're just making their claims to virtue signal about how moral they are. But you can be certain that the moment their comfortable life is threatened they'll walk the straight and narrow. They're only doing what they are doing because they think they can get away with it.
Give them some fancy Bracelets for a few hours and let them sit in a jail cell, and they'll quickly fall in line.

What this woman is doing is far from MORAL. It is very immoral in that it's allowing law breakers to continue their lawlessness.
