Naperville, Illinois, seems like a fairly random place to play this. DeKalb is probably an hour away.

I realize we have neutral sites for many of our championships: Detroit for football; Cleveland for basketball; Avon, Ohio for baseball. Even so... Having never watched a golfing event ever, is there something special about Naperville that lent itself to our men's golf championship?

This is the women’s tourney. NIU is the host, but golf usually just finds a quality championship level course to play. They travel wherever. A couple of years ago, EMU hosted the men’s championship at the former Longaberger course (now called Virtues) in Nashport, OH, east of Columbus. It’s the best public course in Ohio and a great place to host the tournament.

NIU’s home course is Rich Harvest Farms which is a great course that hosted the NCAA Championships last year. But I don’t think the MAC plays the tourneys on home courses, as you noted.

The men’s tourney next week is at Sycamore Hills in Fort Wayne. It’s another quality championship course that recently hosted a US Open qualifier. I couldn’t find on the MAC site who the host is. Probably Ball St. but it’s not that far from BG. It’s probably closest to WMU, but they don’t have men’s golf.

A 57 shot victory is just crazy. I can't recall any result like that. All three rounds under par.

Clearly KSU is worthless and should be kicked out of the MAC.

I noted that the strokes between first and second were greater than the stroke differential between second and tenth. Can’t believe Miami doesn’t have golf.

They have men’s golf. Probably the second best team this year. I’ve never understood why they have men’s and not women’s. That’s pretty unusual.

Usually 35 minutes away, maybe 45 tops. Although I think there's construction going on right now on I-88. NIU does have a Naperville campus but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Yeah it is weird, and on the flip side we also have women's tennis and soccer with no men's counterpart. Most of that probably stems from having the combo of men's hockey/women's synchronized skating taking up a lot of scholarships.

Sycamore Hills is a Nicklaus design. Has hosted a lot in recent years.

Might have to go root on the Rockets.

Did you find that BSU is hosting for sure? It doesn’t have anything to do with distance. They rotate hosting, and as I noted earlier, EMU hosted the tournament held east of Columbus. They’ve held it at that course a few times with different hosts.

(And it doesn’t really matter who hosts anyway. Doesn’t affect anything except maybe pairings on the first day.)

It’s on their (BSU’s)athletic website. “The Kepler was Ball State's final tuneup for the MAC Championships. The Cardinals will host the event Friday through Sunday at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne.”

Ball St. is ahead, but it looks like the golf course is winning. Those are some high scores. Final round Sunday.

KSU came from 10 back to take the title by 3 strokes. KSU's Ian Holt (#22 individual in the country) charged from 5th place to take the individual title. At one point on the front nine, Ball St. had the top three individuals, but really fell apart on the back.
